The PX here at Ft Leonard Wood had 20 round mags for $9.99 and 30 round for either $16.99 or $19.99. I was thinking about some 20-rounders if they are worth it.

They don't have the finish of P-Mags, look cheap. As a point of reference, they were selling for $3-5 (CDNN) before the panic. I bought a 20 rounder a good while back to try since it was sooo cheap. It functons fine, but it was too rough around the edges for me to buy more.

There's a reason they are snubbed "therm-melts"

Canadians used them for awhile, don't know if they still do.

Hold out for MagPuls if you just have to go plastic. You'll be glad.

When I was in the USAF we did some joint training with the Canadians and I can remember we had a special order to not use their magazines in our M16A2s.

I've heard almost universally unhappy thoughts about Thermolds.

I use mine for practicing malfunction drills. :D

They were about $4-5 pre-panic as well. I stocked a few as cruddy range mags I don't mind banging around but that's about it. I wouldn't trust them for any serious application.

They are not worth any price, even free.

Do not use them or you will be disappointed with life in general and your work and home life will suffer as a direct result.

If you value your relationships with all those you cherish then you will please heed the advice of those that have suffered for our sins previously.

LOL!

To be fair I picked up a stack at $3 each when they were on sale a few years ago. I missed this panic, but the next time there's a crazy mag ban panic I'm hopping on GunBroker and seeing what they auction for.

Hmmmm, maybe I should pick up a couple dozen to store for the next panic, found fund a new rifle. ;)

There are TWO different types of Thermold Mags. The Wilson, NC Thermolds are the original design made of dupont Zytel. They are as good as any commercial mag out there. I have several with thousands of rounds through them without a hiccup. I trust them enough to run them in 3 gun matches. If they say Wilson, NC on the mag, they are good to go.

The "Thermelts" were Canadian military contract mags. The plastic compound was changed to save money and it ruined the integrity of the magazine.

Brownells and Midway both have Gen 2 and 3 Pmags for $12-14 in stock. Just bought a couple a few days ago and they are on the truck en route to my house. I picked up a couple of the new HK polymer mags from their site for $19.99. I doubt they will be any better but having HK stuff makes look like a tacti-cool high roller :D

I, too, have had bad experiences with Thermold magazines and, surprisingly, the metal H&K magazines. The feed lips on the H&K metal magazines appear to be too soft. :o
