The Hill reports:

The centerpiece of President Obama’s gun violence agenda is in peril amid a deadlock among Senate negotiators over how to implement and enforce a proposal requiring background checks for private gun sales.
With time running out for talks, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) remains optimistic about reaching an agreement.
But gun control proponents have grown skeptical about whether Schumer’s main Republican counterpart, Sen. Tom Coburn (Okla.), is acting in good faith.
Apparently Coburn is going along with the universal background check thing, but he keeps insisting that there be no record keeping requirement. This has proven to be a sticking point in the negotiations. Some other senators are suggesting that he jumped onto this so that he could tank it, I guess?

I'm not super familiar with all the gritty details of Senate procedure but if it's true, that's awesome.

Agreed!

I may have to take back all those things I said about him and write some more letters asking him to run again!

Unless he caves under pressure like most Repubs have been doing lately. Hope not, but time will tell.

I may be wrong, but I got an email alert today that Coburn is specifically wanting "voluntary" background checks with no record keeping. That way one can find out if the gun your selling to somebody is not legally allowed to posess one.

But, one more mass shooting, it will cease to be voluntary. The basic law will already be on the books and will just need to be ammended to make it mandatory.

Call Coburn and tell him we won't "settle" for any of this crap.
