Does anyone have any experience with the Taurus PT-1911's?

I'm looking at one of these for my 1911, but seeing mixed reviews. Seems like the bad ones are all several years old, so I'm wondering if they maybe improved the model of the years and made it more reliable. Major complaint seems to be with stove piping even with multiple brands of ammo.

Thanks

I had one and put a lot of ammo through it. It was just full of crappy parts. Both sights flew off while shooting. The thumb safety broke off. The ejector broke off. The grip safety didn't work from the factory then the trigger block broke off. The trigger came off the stirrup. The extractor hook broke off.

After all this stuff was replaced it was a decent gun. It also cost as much as a loaded Springer after the parts cost.

Wow, that makes it sound like the Ford Pinto of the gun world. lol

Was thinking about the Taurus PT-1911 or one of the Rock Island Armory models. I just want one to have a 1911, so doesn't have to be a high end for a duty weapon or anything.

Definitely, unless you want to buy used. I bought a Springfield Loaded used off of Gunbroker several years ago for $600.

Crap ... Sorry, I meant for it to be under pistols, not matches. I just noticed that myself.

I had a guy try and sell me one at the range yesterday. I told him I just bought a spartan not to long ago. He immediately put it back in the case. I thought it was funny

I've put a lot of lead through mine since changing out the recoil spring and getting better mags and it's been great. I wish they wouldn't use such crappy magazines coming out of the factory. :/

I bought mine in 2008 to use as a beater gun for riding 4wheelers on my lease. After a 2 years of being very mistreated I tried using it for single stack, 5000+ rounds later it's still going strong and I haven't replace any factory parts yet. With that being said I believe that I got one of the few good ones built by Taurus.
