I've been thinking about the current situation and how that may impact our sport. While I have several areas I have firm views on, I want to address the ammo availability (or lack thereof) and shooting matches

Using myself as an example, I am reconsidering how, or if, I'll shoot 3-gun matches in the short term: IF I shoot the next few, I'll take single shots to the A zone to neutralize instead of two shots anywhere on target to neutralize. I cut ammo costs in 1/2 and still get to shoot a match.

Unlike any other OKC metro arrea match, we allow rimfire. If you have a stash of .22's already, you have that option. If you don't, then it's the same lack of availanility problem.

Addressing that concern, I thought about adopting the 3-Gun "Time Plus" scoring. Basically, ONE "A" zone hit is enough to neutralize the target OR two hits anywhere on target will suffice.

We won't start doing it this month, but I'd like to hear what everyone thinks.

I do not have a big stock of Ammo, so I like the idea of 1 - A hit, or 2 - C or Better hits to neutralize.
This will let us use less ammo or cover our bets if we miss the A zone with the first shot.

I think, hope this is a short term issue, and that the people that don't shoot, that panicked and bought all the ammo I need to shoot, will not continue, so I can go back to stopping at wal-mart or accademy on Friday evening and picking up a couple hundred rounds to shoot that weekend.

Another option is to scale back the round count to 50 for the match. IE; one box of ammo gets you thru the match.

That doesn't necessarily mean fewer targets or shooting positions, just fewer required rounds.

that would still let us get some trigger & practice time in and stretch out what supply we have for awhile

I think getting in the habit of one shot with a pistol is poor practice. Two shots are probably poor practice too but better than one.

iF we change anything, each shooter can decide for himself how many rounds to fire at each target....kind of like it is now.

IF we change it, the single shot must be an A zone hit to avoid incurring penalties.

IF things get back to normal (we can hope!) we can go back to how if was.

I want to reiterate, NO changes have been made, I'm just tossing the ideas out there to get your input.

Now that Obama had his "event" and didn't ban everything, there may be a collective sigh of relief.....at least for now.

Heartland has plenty of 9mm ammo (American Eagle @ $16 per 50) if anyone needs some.

Let's shoot!

I saw lots of Speer Lawman & monarch brass 9mm on the shelf at academy for IRRC around $12.99-13.99/50

The stock is eventually going to replenish itself and I have enough to get me through plus my reloads.

no it won't, the world is going to end, you better have an underground bunker with 50K rounds ready to go!!

I'd rather shoot a full match until I'm out of ammo rather than shoot 1/2 matches.
That's what I'm thinking, too. But if we changed anything, shooting fewer rounds would be OPTIONAL, just as it currently is in 3-Gun. Folks not wanting to go with single A zone hits could still get the Full Meal Deal.
