I'm more confused on the fact that the buy it now price was 3900 and someone bid it up! Kinda fishy to me.

If you have a reserve price set and the auction exceeds the preset reserve the buy it now price goes away. Basically the gun was getting enough bids so someone can't just jump in and buy it instantly rather than let the bidding process do its thing.
