Well its getting close to that time of year for the family vacation. Typically I try to pass some time reading as we go to edisto and there is a lot of down time. Last year I read world war Z, it was ok. Some of my favorite titles are: 1984,a separate reality, fight club, brave new world. Any suggestion would be great. Thanks in advance.

Well if you're into Tom Clancey I just finished the last book he wrote before he died, "Command Authority." It kind of parallels the Russian invasion of Ukraine right now. I guess he could read the writing on the walls and saw that coming. Anyway I enjoyed it but I've read a lot of his other books in the Jack Ryan series.

I think all of Clancey's books can stand alone but there is mention of events that happened in previous books but it's not critical to this book. The only thing you may miss out is some character development that has been established in other books but again that's not critical to the plot. Command Authority does have some flash backs in it that envolve Jack Ryan Sr. Who is the prez. If you ever seen the movie Patriot Games,Harrison Ford plays Jack Ryan Sr in it as a CIA analyst, which the movie is based on Clancey's novel. The Jack Ryan character goes all the way back to Clancey's first book The Hunt for Red October. Another one of Clancey's books Threat Vector which read last year revolved around China spying and hacking US computers, hmmm sound familiar, wait stuff like that just really happened also.
I will have to look into Elmore Leonard next time I'm ready for a new series.

I just read the Jakarta Pandemic (flu pandemic) by Steve Konkoly, and One Second After (EMP strike) by William Forstchen. If I ever get my copies of Rawles' books (Patriots, Survivors, Founders) back from my boss, I'll probably re-read those. And I might re-read the Enemies: Foreign and Domestic series by Matthew Bracken. For all us hoplophiles, Bracken's work is phenomenal.
