Here is an add for another base model 1911, for just under $300. I don't know anything about these, other than what is on the sheet.
I know what you mean there! I think I have four Tisas 1911's left, I had one engraved, and gave it to my son. Today, I went back to carrying my Stingray .45, it's been out of the rotation for awhile. Dam, I really like that pistol! Their low cost, military clone models are way under priced in my opinion. One of my Tisas was under $300.
If the Rock Island is as good it would be well worth it.

I'm on another gun forum where some reliability tests were done with this pistol. Here is an add for another base model 1911, for just under $300. I don't know anything about these, other than what is on the sheet.
I do like my Tisas' but I kinda see your point. Such a great price in the RIA it hard to resist. I think back in the late 90's we were selling those for I think $263.00? Been a while so can't recall exactly. We had no problem selling every one we got in, and as far as I know no one ever brought one back. If I wanted another new handgun I'd definitely look into one of those.I agree, if you need or want a GI 1911... too bad I have more than enough.
.I wanted to try a Tisas..but when you've got Colts, Springfields, Dan Wessons, etc.. why do I need a Tisas ?
In case it's a carry gun, and you need to use it, if the cops keep it for a year or so, you're not out much $$I wanted to try a Tisas..but when you've got Colts, Springfields, Dan Wessons, etc.. why do I need a Tisas ?
Tisas has all forged parts. Colts, SA have some MIM. Not sure about DW. Some say MIM is just as good as forged. I say, if you can get all forged (for less cost) then why not?I agree, if you need or want a GI 1911... too bad I have more than enough.

Just got a brand new one like this for 279.99 from PSA last week. Looks beautiful. Very tight no play in slide at all no movement in bbl either from pushing on top thru ejection port or when pushing end of muzzle. As soon as I get time I'll try it out.
