Here is an add for another base model 1911, for just under $300. I don't know anything about these, other than what is on the sheet.

One of my Tisas was under $300.
If the Rock Island is as good it would be well worth it.

I know what you mean there! I think I have four Tisas 1911's left, I had one engraved, and gave it to my son. Today, I went back to carrying my Stingray .45, it's been out of the rotation for awhile. Dam, I really like that pistol! Their low cost, military clone models are way under priced in my opinion.

My 1st 1911 was a Rock Island Armory GI model, the only 9mm 1911 they sold @ the time
Since it was a GI model, I ended up putting about what I paid for the pistol, back into modding it.
It's been perfectly reliable, but.RIA 9mm 5 L.JPG I found & Bought a S.A Loaded Target, in SS, which is what I wanted in the 1st place,.. but couldn't find. .

I'm on another gun forum where some reliability tests were done with this pistol.
The report was that the fit and finish was equal to some much more expensive 1911's, with a couple hundred rounds ran through without any sort of failure.
Sounds like a good buy.

I agree, if you need or want a GI 1911... too bad I have more than enough.
.I wanted to try a Tisas..but when you've got Colts, Springfields, Dan Wessons, etc.. why do I need a Tisas ?
I do like my Tisas' but I kinda see your point. Such a great price in the RIA it hard to resist. I think back in the late 90's we were selling those for I think $263.00? Been a while so can't recall exactly. We had no problem selling every one we got in, and as far as I know no one ever brought one back. If I wanted another new handgun I'd definitely look into one of those.
