So I had been doing the matches over at HO every so often, when I did, I used the 15-22. Unfortunately, the more I look, the more I realize there just aren't a whole lot of shooting competitions that will let me shoot this gun(Without being the only one to be shooting it anyway). So I want to start shooting with my m&p 9c, problem is, all I have is the two factory mags 12rnds. Are there any shooting sports where that would be feasible? Or are all of them 4 mags or more? I was looking at steel challenge, but it looks like you need at least 5 magazines in order not to hold everyone up.

Gonna need more mags for USPSA.

Max round count per stage in IDPA is 18. Now you just gotta find a match close by. Forum sponsor Tin Star in Weatherford has a monthly match.

For Steel Challenge, 5 mags is better but you can get buy with 3. And don't be shy, someone will help you out if you have a bad string. I like to shoot Steel Challenge with a Ruger Mk III, just because it's fun to shoot. I don't know about your club, but several here shoot a .22 Tac rifle for SC.

All of us started out somewhere, some with more, some with less. Just figure out what you want and what you need for what you want to do, and pick up pieces as you can. The mag issue was tough for me as well, and took me a while to get all I needed, and even longer to get all I wanted. Just prepare yourself, one match leads to another, and before you know it, you will be pushing a baby stroller loaded with guns!

If you're at Steel Challenge, you could probably ask someone to load your spare mag while you continue to shoot. It's a fun game, and seems to me to be the best way to start into the shooting sports. A very simple game, but challenging because speed wins. It's like the Formula 1 of shooting.

OKCGC has a steel challenge match this month on the 3rd Saturday. Your 15-22 would work fine there as there are divisions for rimfire as well as center fire.

That's what I thought, but when I looked on their website it made it sound like .22 pistol and revolver were the only two recognized?

Results from one of the matches shows each division shot at this match, rimfire rifle was included OKCGC Steel Challenge Results

Open guns will have optics, red dots, compensators, or combination of. You can shoot your 15-22 with iron sights or with a red dot (which puts you in open).

You can shoot:
Rimfire Pistol - Iron Sights
Rimfire Pistol - Open (dots, & or comps)
Rimfire Rifle - Iron Sights
Rimfire Rifle - Open (dots, & or comps)
Centerfire Pistol - Iron Sights
Centerfire Pistol - Open (dots & or comps)

There is something for everyone! If I missed something someone will be along to add some more info :)

I think Steve covered the divisions. Steel Challenge is a lot of fun. It's also newbie friendly because there's no movement while shooting. You need to shoot a match! You can shoot with just two mags. Just recruit somebody to load the extra mag while you're shooting. I promise any random person on your squad would do it if you ask. Don't let just having two mags keep you from shooting the match. You could also shoot your M&P 15-22 in the match.

Most Steel Challenge is 125 rounds...if you don't miss. I would take a brick first time, not for misses, but for just not having to worry about coming up 3 rounds short.
