Been thinking about getting a 3 gun type rifle. Or maybe better said a do all type rifle that is very capable in the 3 gun type games.I have been looking at the stag model 3g. I know that rifle has been discussed on here before and there is some great info. The other option that has caught my eye is the Bravo company spr mk 12 mod 0 upper and then buying or putting together something similar to the stag lower to put it on. So the only real difference would be the upper essentially. I know the barrels are different types of stainless. Does anyone have experience with the bravo upper or any insight to what would be a good choice in the 12-1500 dollar ball park for the whole rifle. I have other money for the optic. My want list is basically Fairly light weight, accurate, and very reliable. I have not owned an ar before so a lot of this is new to me. Thanks for any help. Brandon.

Well for $1200 you can get a J.P.-15 upper with an 18" barrel and low mass operating system. It would be light. It WILL be very accurate, and it already has a fairly effective comp installed. Then build up you lower as you would with the Bravo unit, which will be hevier, doesn't have the Low Mass operating system and no comp, and probably not as accurate ( NOTE: it would certainly be accurate enough, just not what a J.P. will be.) Or you could get the whole Stag rifle which also won't have the Low mass system, but more of what a 3-gun rifle needs than the Bravo unit, and latter swap out the for the low mass system like the Stag factory sponsored guys do.

Thanks Kurt. I didn't think about the jp option. The more I contemplate the situation the more I feel I need to spend. Unfortunately my wife doesn't contemplate rifle choices the same way I do.

Kurt's post is dead on!

I have no experience with that Bravo Company upper but it is definitely not a 3 gun upper. It has some of the attributes of what us 3 gunners like such as the rifle length gas and 18 or 20" barrel but that's about it. That 12" PRI handguard is a $300 waste of your money. Yu want the 15" PRI handguard if you have the option. Those PRI handguards are VERY nice but very expensive. There are several good alternative carbon forearms out there that are 1/3 the cost. LOKI Weapon Systems sells a great carbon tube in about any length you could want. I have a 16" and am getting an 18" soon.

For the best way to spend $1200 Kurts recommendation is a much better way to go.

For the reord, I run a JP low mass bolt carrier and buffer and a few different adjustable gas blocks including JP, PRI, and KEIS. My Team Stag Arms teammate runs the stock Model 3G with a Roling Thunder comp as his only change to the rifle.
