I started reloading again about 4 years ago (first attempt with auto loaders, most experience was with revolvers) and started loading 45ACP. Kimber & Taurus 1911's eat it like a kid after candy but, Springfield 1911's and XDM 45's have digestion problems. My pet load is 6.8 grains of 800X and 230 grain FMJ that is an accurate load in a Kimber but the Springfield has feeding and ejection problems with it. I hope I can get some input on what I need to look at in the reloading arena that might help or maybe i just need to do a little judicious polishing to aid in reliable feeding. I would appreciate your input.

Unlike a revolver most semi autos don't really care for hollow point or waddcutter type loads, Round ball ammo is the key for reliable shooting, especially if you are doing a lot of shooting.
If you want to use any load with flats on the bullet then chamber profiling by an experienced gunsmith will find what it takes to smooth out the feeding problem.

It is true that polishing the feed ramp is one of the methods used but there can be a lot more than that.
The transition of spent shell to full cartridge is not quite as simple and smooth as it looks.

Before you do anything try this: Almost all 1911's like oil, they drink it to wash down all those bullets and without it there is friction in places that slow things down by a microsecond and causes mis-feeds. Spray some oil into your gun before you go shooting and after every few mags. If this cures your problem then you or a gunsmith can polish out friction spots and cause it to need less lubrication but if it doesn't then you probably have an alignment problem that needs some attention.

Caution... In some guns over polishing your feed ramp can also cause an alignment problem.
