Sponsorship

I'm pretty sure that I've used the same urinal as some local semi-pros. They used to have a line on the ground "semi-pros stand here". I believe one of them went on to starting his own Benelli stock modification business.
 
While I have not "shot with" any of the big name guys I have RO'd many. They have always shot on the same days as the rest of the shooters.

Almost all were regular guys, who just happen to be fast. JM has consistently been one of the nicest guys at a match.

One time he got close to a "time" call. After ULSC, he says "man that was a lot harder than I expected, that was fun" ( I beat him on that stage :boast: )
He's always been that kinda guy.

I can only think of 2 who tried to use their "status" to get favorable treatment , didn't work. Many more no name guys have tried the same, it's just some peoples personality.

I was speaking primarily of USPSA Pistol matches. 3Gun matches have a lot more reason for the top guys to stick around

Yeah, sorry about that. In the real world, I just kinda grunt, scratch myself, and point. I make up for it here. I'll try to stop taxing people's brains with words.
 
Lots of good info in this thread.

I think in the end, it will always boil down to what you can do for the sponsor. Gun ranges want more clients interested in shooting. Manufacturers want their firearms to be in winners circles and/or people saying how great they are to potential customers.
 
I have squadded with 2 "big name" shooters before. I asked one of them if he thought I would ever be as good as he was. He's said, no and that I should probably sell my guns now while the market is good.

Good times.
 
A hot babe with a big rack and no brain for the sponsoring companies to look at while you talk them into sponsoring you is a good approach.

That's brilliant!!! I don't have one of those readily available, as my wife has a brain. I have a sweet butt myself, so maybe I could approach the Pink Pistols for sponsorship. You're a genius!

Probably not a good idea....that compant will end up signing the 'hot babe' to the team.
 
Kind of late getting into this, but my shooting will never attract a sponsor.

Back in the MotoX days, I bought a lot of parts from a local cycle shop, got his name on my jersey, attended a lot of local, state, and national races.

You try to pit, visit with the big name teams, and eventually somebody will recognize you.

Don't have to be in first place every time, just be good, and be able to relate to the spectators.

Put in resume's until you get tired of it, then BINGO! You get one.
When you get one, the rest come easier.

The same happens in shooting or any other sport.

Most of this information has already been stated about shooting, but I just wanted to show how other sports are exactly the same when it comes to sponsorships.
