I went to the tactical class they offered yesterday. I just wanted to say that it is well worth attending. I even used my M&P 15-22 for 95% of the class and it was perfect it. Great way to practice all the tactics without sending $250-350 worth of bullets down range. Check them out here: http://www.scgunschool.com/Tactical-Rifle.html

Any questions, just ask me.

Looks Fun. I know being a fairly new shooter I would benefit from defensive pistol, and tactical rifle class. 700 rounds, gear/clothing/mags, class cost and travel. I'm thinking close to $400 bucks for someone not equipped. Is the quality of instruction and facility worth it to attend?

Yes...plus look at it this way. It's gear you should have even with not attending. And shooting tons of ammunition is the only way to get proficient. That's why you recommend to a new shooter to keep his first gun simple and spend money on lots of ammo instead of gun accessories.

Thanks Hammer,
I started looking at some shooting vests right after I read about the school. It would be a one time expense, but I'll have this gear beyond this class. The wheels are turning, I'm making a mental shopping list, but first I need to find a rifle. Any suggestions? I'm leaning towards AK type Saiga 7.62*39. I'm not planning on modifying it, I might just do stock change to a T6 type with built in pistol grip so I don't have to move the trigger group. This would be my first long gun. I might be ready for the class in fall.

I'm an AR15 guy so if one asks me for my suggestion, that's what I recommend. And I recommend Palmetto State Armory for a quality source OF AR's that are affordable.
