Wow I learned something too, thanks.

TS - I'll get the keys but you're helping me clean the guns so we can have them back by morning!
I thought that part was pretty indicative of the mindset back in those days.

My Dad was a WWII Vet...That is what he tought me...The weapons get cleaned as soon as you finish with them....but, I must admit...I have slacked off some from my teachings...I will spend most of Sunday afternoon cleaning gun from Shootzenfest...

Since I haven't opened a can of worms in a few days I figure I?ll start out here. As I understand it this refers to the Battle of Athens Tennessee in 1946 (I can?t get YouTube to work, but Google is still my friend). For anyone else having a problem: The Battle of Athens refers to an open armed rebellion that occurred in McMinn County Tennessee in August 1946. In the face of rampant political corruption of the ?duly elected? civil government a group of WW2 veterans took up arms in an effort to restore non-partisan government and eliminate voter intimidation, fraud, and abuse of law enforcement powers.

Now, to cover my ass from potential charges I would like to point out that I am not advocating open armed rebellion against a duly elected civil government. Even if that government is elected through massive vote fraud, gerrymandering, and ballot stuffing. And/or if that government consistently abuses its law enforcement powers in the name of ?the greater good?. That would constitute a terrorist act or intent, and possibly treason. I am asking for informational and discussion purposes only.

Does anyone think it would be possible to recreate this today? Some of the obvious barriers that would exist include but are not limited to greater restrictions on private firearm ownership, and of, course, anti-terror legislation. That I had to think several times before posting this question is an indication of how much times have changed since 1946. I actually had to consider whether or note the exercise of my first amendment rights would put me on a watch list, or worse. That right their scars me, deeply (yes scars, not scares). If no one responds, I will understand.

I don't think this could be recreated today. For one thing the gov has had too much time to train us out of such behavior, people aren't turning out to vote in the numbers they used to, and i don't think you can pry them away from their reality tv and their social media long enough to get their attention, unless you made it a new foursquare hotspot with the mayorship up for grabs. Or incorporated it into farmville. *eyeroll*

Besides, they'd probably just haul them off to gitmo under the National Defense Authorization Act.
