So, what is your current competition setup...

I have a G17 with a stippled and scalloped frame, and a S&W 1911. The G17 is great, and I wouldn't change anything about it except maybe lightening the slide a bit. The 1911 I'd prefer a shorter trigger with a better fit, and the series 80 components are irritating to deal with. The S&W combat trigger works perfectly but the fit is sloppy. I'm also interested in trying Warren Tactical Wave sights. Those seem like an interesting design, but buried Bo-Mar sights are my favorite. I see a 2011 in the future, though. There doesn't seem to be any way to avoid it.

Forgive me for asking but what is a 2011 you mentioned? Is this an upgraded 1911? Who makes it? Thx.

A 2011 is a double stack 1911. There are a lot of companies that make them. STI, SV, Para, Springfield, Taruas.

A 2011 is an enlarged and modular 1911-style gun. It has a slide, lower frame, and grip as the three major sections. They come in a variety of calibers, but generally all look similar. They are also generally longer and wider than a 1911, and better balanced. The controls are all the same type. I believe STI came up with the 2011 in 1994 or so. They do use a double-stack mag for a greatly increased capacity.

Thanks... I appreciate the explanation and help.

I have a G34 and G35 I'm trying to get set up for competitions. I'm planning to add Warren Sights with fiber optic front on both. I don't own a 1911 style toy yet... Need to see what others are using then decide where to go next.

You'll probably see a few 1911's at the Heartland Match Sunday, as David is billing the match as the Single Stack Vlasic.

Basically, I'm new to the pistol competitions. I've been in the shotgun world for many years.
So for starting out I bought a Kimber 1911 Stainless Target II. Basically used it for hunting taking a couple of does, and a bobcat.(have pics)
Currently, I'm shooting the Limited 10 Major, out of the box, no modifications.
Starting out, I just wanted to have more practice with my gun, and learn how to run it under some pressure.
Now, I'm ready to progress. First purchase will be a mag well. Next purchase will be a new thread.

What is the BEST Mag well. Don't worry about the cost.

Best magwell? That's pretty subjective. I like the Techwell system (magwell and grips). The Dawson ICE is pretty popular too, although I have no first hand experience with those.
