Not sure what to expect. I have had a few failure to fires out of my 1911, I had Eric at 2A shooting center look at the brass after some range time yesterday. He said it's most likely not from light pin strikes, but from an off center firing pin. I called Springfield and they were fairly easy to deal with and said they would send me a label so I could get the pistol in the mail to them. They never asked if I was the original owner of the pistol, they just wanted to know what ammo I have shot out of it and had problems with.

Anyone dealt with Springfield customer service before?

Is there a way to fix an off center pin/pin hole?

Any suggestions at all?

Why did I switch from Glock?.......

did you buy it new? do you know the history of the gun? was it tinkered with?If you dont know, Ill probably tell ya, it got buggered with.

The barrel is not locking up properly, or the slide is not in spec.

They didn't ask me. Once I told them the problem they just said that they would send a shipping label. So I guess worst case scenario I am not out anything, except that it's my only pistol....

They are quick on turn around time. and an off center strike is very unlikley unless it was a factory mistake from the onset.

I have a pistol that strikes off center & it has never failed to fire.
How off center is it?

I will take some pics when I get home. Dead center of the primer is basically lined up with the edge of the strike, if that makes sense.

So basically half the diameter of the firing pin off center.
That shouldn't prevent it from igniting.
It may be the firing pin is too short, be it broken or just out of spec.
But these 2 guys will know more about it, as will the guys at Springfield.

Pull the firing pin out and look at the spring. I have seen a broken spring stop a gun from firing and another slam firing.

Yeah, I figured it was something like a spring, or the firing pin. Eric isn't a smith, but I think he knows his stuff. We shall see I guess.

I did that the other day while cleaning it. Figured if it had been heavily oiled, and gotten gunky it could mess things up.

That should not be a problem.
They can get it centered a couple different ways. If you are satisfied with accuracy and reliability, they can drill the breechface and install an offset bushing.

I am very happy with the pistol so far. Other than the failure to fires it has had only one hiccup, and that was a very minor one. It seems to be less forgiving of errors on my part than my Glock was, but when I do things right it stacks rounds.

i've heard a few reports of light strikes, i'm sure springfield will take care of you

their cust service is top notch from what i hear, the turnaround time isent supposed to be bad, i have had mike @ accurate iron work on my springfields for minor stuff, i just hate to send a gun in. good luck!

Got a call from Springfield today, they said the strikes were off center, but not enough to be "out of spec" The said they checked the springs and the mainspring was weak, so they replaced it.

So, now I have to decide if this is the gun I want to build off of, or what. I guess if this seems to have fixed the problem, then I have no problem.......

What work do you want done? A good smith can weld and recut the lugs to get the proper fit and have the firing pin centered if that's what you want.
There should be no reason for you not to build on it.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but if a gun is not performing correctly, and the Mfgr won't make it right, is it worth putting extra money into the gun to make it right?

The manufacturer sold a product that is advertised to perform.
If it does not, IMHO they are required to make it right.
I had issues with a Kahr CW 40. I sent it back three times.

Each time, they said to send it in on my dime. I refused, and they sent me a shipping label.

Each time it came back they sent a mag with it.
The gun has ran 100% since then.

I sent my 1911 slide back for front sight repair at the turn around time was about 2 weeks, overall their customer service is pretty good.
