I was at the range sighting in a red dot on my shotgun
Left my phone in the truck, but when leaving, saw I had 7 calls from my wife within 2 minutes. Freeked me out.
Fearing the worst, called back only to hear her in full panic mode.
Finall getting her to calm down, seems a 4' black snake had slipped through a small gap in the back door, through the utility room , past my wife's recliner within a foot, and proceeded to do a vertical climb where the Sheetrock meets the stone on our fireplace.
Her first instinct was to grab the dogs, lock them in the bedroom and prepare to battle the slithering invader. She is insanely afraid of snakes, trying to call me to see where I was.
Nowhere to be found, she got a hoe from the shop. Found it was 8' up the rocks, so she jabbed at it a couple of times, causing it to fall on the mantle where it tried to get to the library shelves.
She jabbed at it some more, finally getting it to fall to the floor. It made its way back to the utility room on the tile where the chopping commenced in earnest.
That would have been scary for anybody!
When I got home she was nursing a large mixed drink trying to get her nerves settled.
I had to go on "snake patrol", overturning all furniture, looking in all closets, under appliances, inside drawers before she would come back inside.
I'm pretty sure there will be contractors here pretty soon replacing all of the doors, jambs, etc. making a seal the critters can't get in. Lol.

Those pics of the climbing would freak most out! I'd say your lucky you were'nt picking buckshot out of the wall when you came home :)

I remember as a teen we would get snakes in our utility room too, don't know if it was the heat of the dryer drawing them in or what, but that's the room they favored. Also have found them inside of the dryer, figured they came in through the dryer vent.

Update: Linda said she heard birds chirping in the fireplace the snake was climbin on. I looked up on the chimmney and saw the cap was missing. Have no Idea where its at or when it blew off.
Don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. New cap on tomorrow.

Nice. I ran over one about the same size on Friday. PETA can kiss my ass, I'm killin any snake I come across.
you probably wouldn't like the one that lives in my barn.
6 footer +. Black snakes will kill and eat a rattler. They can climb a tree as fast as a squirrel. I don't have any rodent problems in the barn, but it will startle me when I move a box or something, and see him looking at me.
I jump too, but he gets a pass.

My wife would demand that we just sell the house however it sat. Clothes, TV, appliances a whole package deal. Hmmm....

It's a good thing Jill Biden wasn't there, that could have gotten expensive, that is if she had more than 2 shells.

My wife and I both don't kill snakes unless they're venomous and near where children play or live.

I would have put the holes in the walls. I have lived by the rule that "the only good snake is a dead snake" for quite some time. I have to date never been bitten and don't plan on it.
