Hey guys I noticed this a while ago but thought it was fine b.c I didn't have anything to compare it to. Now that I got a Glock 19 to compare my M&P core. I don't know what the part is called but its where the barrel lugs meet the lower on a metal part. The picture below shows the S&W on the left and Glock 19 on the right. Seems like the factory welded the part and didn't do a good job sanding it down. Should I just sand it down and call it good or should I send it back to Smith & Wesson. I also had a chip in the rifling of my S&W so I was thinking sending the whole gun in but wanted to ask you guys first.

Send it back. There's no reason your gun should look like it was made by DGFM.

I have not had one failure. The wear on the barrel is the only real thing I noticed. Does putting on my Apex trigger kit put my warranty in question? I don't want to take the trigger back off just to send it back but if I have to I would like to know. I will call Smith & Wesson tomorrow.

You better put the factory parts back in it before you send it in. Otherwise those Apex parts will find their way into a trash can at S&W and you'll find new factory parts installed when you get it back.

Thanks for the info. Man I really don't want to take everything apart again, main reason when I work on stuff I break stuff all the time. Messed up my stock plunger spring and frame cap when i put the apex kit in.

From S&W site
Since we cannot assume responsibility for custom parts and accessories, such as stocks, special sights, or holsters, please remove these items before returning your firearm.

I sent an email in the beginning of the year about the barrel problem and asked for a return label and still have not heard anything from them.

I have no idea why its beat up so bad i didn't even notice until you pointed it out. I bought the Glock used and it had around 4000 round through it. I have been talking to other people on Brianenos and M&P forums and they say you can send the gun back with the apex parts installed and wont void the warranty. They also said if you send it to S&W with Apex parts in it they will just replace them and put them in a bag and send it back with the gun. A member also added that the locking block on the S&W are cast and that imperfection in the middle is just where they snap the parts off the cast, very common.

Makes sense. I think I have noticed that mine look rough in that spot also, but they work so I don't worry about it.

None of mine have had wear the pin get beat up like that.

Regarding aftermarket parts and sending it to Glock - a Glock employees advised me that with the exception of sights Glock will discard any aftermarket parts on the pistol when they service it. I have spoken with people that have sent their Glock's in for service. Some people said they received the aftermarket stuff back in a bag and others have said they only received the pistol back.

I am fine with my Glock it was bought in 2008. I don't think Glock has lifetime warranty like S&W.

I got a new SSS non captured 5" guild rod, 13lb spring, and a lower powered striker spring. Put everything in and did a little but of light sanding on the locking lug and where the trigger bar meets the plunger. Went to the range to test out the new set up and I had light strikes on 3-4 rounds out of around 35-40rounds. I like how the new striker spring makes the trigger 3/4 lb lighter and it felt like it too. I know the new striker spring is most likely causing the light strikes but could it be the lighter guild rod spring? Also noticed that on all my brass the strike was not a nice little pin point it had like a small rectangle mark(looks like it got mushed)and oblong striker mark. Should have used my stock guide rod that I brought to the range but I forgot.

you need to stop effing with your guns and leave them alone, or pay someone who knows

I can do whatever I want its my gun. I put the old striker spring in and everything is fine.
I have worked on cars, motorcycles, and paintball guns sense the age of 16, now 27. I know how much shops charge for someone to do something I know I can do myself, I would much rather learn everything about my belongings and not have to go to a shop every time something happens. If its something I don't have the tools or knowledge I will send it to a shop without hesitation. One word is "experience" how do you get it without doing some work, trial and error.

That's fine on most things, but let's say you do a trigger job and take off to much material from the striker, or sear/hammer etc and it goes bang when you release the slide.
That's more than just an oops if someone was in the path of it.

This is not meant to bash ya at all BUT a little warning, do a bit more research on your pistol before you do work on it, some of the statements you've made doesn't sound like you truly know your firearm's workings. It is your's and you can do whatever you want after all it is a free country but if you screw up and something goes South with a firearm it's most likely not going to be a good thing! get to know your pistol before you go to whittling on it. Later,

Kirk
