Saw the new CORE pistol on Shooting USA last night. A factory.optic ready handgun is an awesome advance in my opinion. If Safariland and other holster manufacturers can figure out a level 3 retention holster this could be an amazing tool for law enforcement.

I am sure some one somewhere makes a threaded barrel for the M&P. Same with an extended comp barrel like they make for Glock. The only downside is my inner gun nut says I must own one yesterday!

That's a cool pistol. My Glock with a dot is wicked fast and anybody could hit something with it.

Yes they have a 5" model m&p core. And yes it is the $h¡£. In today's gun buying frenzy it's a bit difficult to find one for a sane price,or without having to wait months.

I saw a video of JM demoing the CORE. I think he had the had the top of the barrel ported instead of having a comp installed.

Hopefully there will be a bunch of Open stuff for M&Ps pop up around the CORE.

Why would you want a 5" pistol w/ an optic? I understand the longer site radius for irons, but for an optic, it doesn't seem relevant. what am I missing?
Good point.

The Core is sweet......I was holding one in our safe during Christmas and it was some major eye candy!! Yes it did have the 5in barrel. Sooner State got it in by accident and my friend scored since he had just asked them about one the week before! I've been seriously considering switching from my Gen4 Glock 34 to an M&P for some time----just hard finding a 5in!

Stormlake makes a very good threaded barrel for M&Ps

budget open gun that can be quickly switched to limited if needed, im guessing.
That was my thought process when buying mine. Ability to switch, longer sight radius with iron sights, and also important, the feel and balance in hand. The 5" feels better to me than the 4.24".

I bought the standard M&P40 because I was impatient. It's been to the range once, which was long enough to realize I LOVE these guns. I never fall in love on a first date but I sure did with my M&P. The only bad thing was what I actually needed was the CORE to mount my RMR on. So now it's either spend $125+ to have it milled out to fit my RMR or take the hit and trade it in on a CORE which is tougher on my pocketbook than I care to do at the moment. I do believe these M&P's are going to really hit big in the market as more and more people get their first trigger time on them.

i had a core, while S&W didnt great putting out a model like this...i dont care for red dots on handguns(semi autos)

I had the CORE 9mm and put a Burris FastFire 2 on it. It was pretty fun. I can't see a practical purpose for CCW with it, but range time was fun. They list 4 or 5 reflex sights that will work with it, and the FF was not one of them, but it fit with the included mounting plates. It sat just a tad too high for the iron sights to co-witness.

Why don't you think a red dot equipped CORE isn't good for practical purposes like CCW? Seems like most folks I see shoot could use a red dot or a laser even.
