Sling Positions for a Heavy AR with Scope and Bipod

I'm looking for advice on sling considerations and carry positions on a big heavy AR. It's a DPMS LR-308 24" SS bull bbl A2 stock, Harris bipod, 3-9x40 scope. With a sling mounted from the bipod to lower loop on the stock, the only logical carry position is over one shoulder, rifle in back, barrel straight down by my leg, pistol grip in my armpit. The sling is shortened up pretty close for this configuration.

Does anyone have recommendations on a better way to carry such a big AR? Other slings? I either don't know how to wear it, or a single point is out, as it will bust up my knees and other lower body assets. Obvioulsly, the protrusions (mag, scope, and esp. bipod) are big considerations. Throw up some pictures or links if you have any suggestions.

I don't have a ;ong barreled AR...but, I would think you should have it slung on your back.

I would never carry a long gun with the muzzle pointed down...If you happen to slip, the barrel could stick in the ground...If you didn't notice it, The next time you fire the rifle, it could blow up in your face...

That is the way my Dad showed me how to carry a rifle...or, just cradled in your arms...

Not sure what forearm your using, can you add a second sling swivel behind the bipod?

A picture is worth 1000 words. As you can see, with the barrel up, the bipod is right on my shoulder, hence the barrel down. But again, I am posting here expressly for a better suggestion.

This may sound like a silly question, but, can you turn the bipod around so it folds foward instead of back...That was it would not be on your sholder....

Here's a silly question... can I just delete this entire topic so as to avoid further embarassment? Fordnut, you nailed it! Let me give that a try. Thanks for having the sense and courage to ask the silly questions.

With a little drilling, i was able to use the stud on the rear of the bipod (now mounted properly) instead of the holes in the clips as suggested by the owners manual. Eliminates almost all shoulder contact with the bipod base.

However, I would like to see some other sling arrangement, as the over one shoulder deal just really doesn't feel right. I'm 6'5" and that's a 24" barrel. I'm asking for overhead trouble!
