I found a super clean 1979 Walther PPK .380 at a pawn shop and bought it for my wife. Only problem is the sights that were originally white have faded and chipped really bad, making it kind of hard to see them. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to use to repaint them? Thought about using some car touch-up paint.

Adam-
you could use some Testors Enamel paint. http://www.testors.com/category/135897/Enamel_Paints
Another option is a Tritium Big Dot from Brownells.

I've painted and repainted various sights over the years. Fingernail polish works great. One of the smaller manufacturers I know uses fingernail polish as their OEM.

I thought about fingernail polish, but thought it would chip off real easy. Does it hold up pretty well? If so, I'll have to dig around in my wife's bag and see what colors she has. :)

becarefull telling your wife what you are doing she might thing her toes & finger nails need to cordinate with the zebra striped front sight lol good luck

i keep orange and clear nail polish in my range gear. the base color being orange and then i cover with a few layers of clear so that when i clean the gun the orange doesnt get taken off so easily. then just re coat with clear.

Think about the abus,e the time some women put into thier nails, not to mention money. A good finger nail polish wont be easy to chip as long as you clean the surface area first you are wanting to paint.

Model paint works as well and I have used both to include spraying spray paint onto a Q-tip. From my experince nail polish would be best. main thing is to get some paint on it.

I have two pistols with Ashely dots. My main pistol wears the Big Dot. For your wifes assumed purpose It would be hard to beat on the PPK.

I used Testors model paint with a toothpick for the front and rear sites. Works great.

A agree with g-rod on his first post. Welcome to BoomerShooter...............

I used orange model paint and a toothpick on my snub nose and it has held up very well

Just a tip from a painter’s son, use denatured alcohol for your final clean.
It will remove solvents and lubricants without leaving any residue that would reduce adhesion.
This way the paint will get better…grip when it dries.
