Should i take the deal on dpms?

So right now there is a 50 dollar rebate on dpms oracle(the flat top) making price for the gun 475. Are they worth it? Originally i was going to finish my lower out with a decent upper, but now, at that price i am thinking of just getting it, so i will have a rifle, then just piecemeal together an even nicer upper for my lower. I hear more positive about dpms than i do negative, and a lot of the negative i have heard comes from people who have never done or seen done a mag partical inspection much less know what it is, so i really dont think "well the bolt isnt mpi'd " or whatever is a clvalid argument from them.

Dpms is good gear. You'll be alright.

I had one and it went bang every time. It's carbine gas so you'll get more recoil but it's not bad at all. I would suggest looking at the PSA freedom rifles as well as a low cost option. They can be had around that same price point.

Problem is, psa is out of stock on most things. Would the spikes t2 buffer help with recoil?

What's the twist on the barrel? Alot of the cheaper dpms have 1 in 9. Which is not something I would personally want. That's the only thing I would consider. Barrels are kinda pricy to replace. If your response is that you were going to replace the barrel anyway I would suggest you just finish your build. Why buy a cheap rifle just to end up changing the most expensive parts later ie trigger barrel. But if it's just a gun to run as is and beat up then maybe that's a kick ass deal

Here is an H2 buffer in stock. I also saw while I was getting that address that bcm is giving you a free BCG with the purchase of their uppers. Quite a bit more than your dpms but check out the ones with the KMR rail it's crazy light.

Not sure if we are on the same page here. I was referring to being stuck shooting lighter bullets with what I would guess would be a 1 in 9 twist barrel. Not weather or not the barrel was threaded. Or maybe I'm retarded and you weren't referring to my barrel comment.

Yeah, unfortunately I believe it is 1:9. does this mean hotter loads or match loads will wear it faster? Or it cant handle it at all?

And I have a feeling that even with the rebate the FN would still be out of the price range.

It wasn't a related comment, but there are a bunch of 1 in 9 barrels out there that will stabilize 69gr bullets. The one 1 in 9 barrel I had would shoot 77gr bullets with fairly acceptable accuracy.

1 in 9 twist barrels will all shoot 55gr bullets just fine and 55's are just fine for a huge majority of shots in matches. If you shoot enough ammo to wear out the original barrel you will be so far ahead of most everyone else it won't be funny.

I guess the appropriate question Johnathan is what is your intended use for this rifle? Do you know what bullets you want to shoot and why you want to shoot them? 1 in 9 barrels historically have issues with bullets heavier than 62 to 69 grains. While this differs from barrel to barrel as previously stated by tech. in my experience it usually leans more to the disappointing side and won't stabilize the heavier guys. I really like to shoot 70, 75 and 77 grainers at P-dogs, pigs and coyotes so I get barrels with a 1 in 8 or 1 in 7 twist. There is a ton of info on the Internet about this topic some of it from people alot smarter than me. Google that elephant dung up and let us know what you think/questions you have.

I do have to mention that 1000 rounds of 223 is gonna run you around 300-350 so pretty quick your going to surpass the cost of the rifle with ammo. I've personally gotten to the point that I kinda prefer buying what I really want the first time around. I certainly don't know your situation, but take that into account as well.

My 1-9 freakin' loves the 75gr Hornady match bullets! and the Hornady steel match 75gr ammo is awesome but I can't find powder to duplicate the load or the loaded ammo, it will shoot everything very well I have run thru it and the heaviest being the 75gr. You figure 55-62 grain bullets are going to be most of your shooting I'd say a 1-9 twist would be fine unless your going for bench rest accuracy then you might want to rethink

I know it's probably not what you want to hear but I'd stash your pennies back until you can get what you want! the buy once cry once method. Later,

Yeah sounds like it, might try to wait for PSA to come back in stock, they usually run really great holiday sales. I am a little worried to wait though, just the thought of the prices going back up before I can get ahold of one.
