I need shotgun help. I'm a small framed woman with limited arm strength. Advice for 3 gun shotgun. 12g or 20g? Barrel length? Semi auto or pump? Choke? Ammo?

I like to know the why's as well. Why is one better than the other?

12 ga so you have the knock down power, and pellets for plates and angle iron pieces at distance.

Semi auto. Because they're faster and less recoil, especially if a gas gun.

Barrel, 21 or 22". Shorter = less weight.

Choke - yes. LM, IC, and LF will cover just about everything you'd encounter. A diffuser choke is nice when you have juicy clay targets...

Ammo - yes, you'll want some of that too. Low velocity, 7-1/2 shot works. You'll need to experiment with loads/brands to see what cycles in whatever gun you get.

My 16 y/o petite daughter runs my versamax like a boss, she just doesn't have the upper body strength yet to run around with it and swing it a lot. But as far as being able to shoot successive targets fast, no problem.

The to find a Benelli M2, a versa-max, and a beretta 1301 and try them all. I don't know how the weight of the Benelli compares to the beretta, but it will be lighter than the VM. It will recoil more, though. The VM has less recoil, but the one I tried felt like it was made for someone a foot taller than me (I'm 5-7). The Beretta might be the ticket, less recoil and still feels like a Benelli.

There are a few of us that are messing with the stoeger m3000 right now. Pat kelly has done reviews on his and they all sound good. Between my wife and I we have put over 300 rounds through HER'S ( ya she paid for it her self ) with no problems. Going to shoot it more latter today. If you are looking at a budget gun to get started in 3 gun this may be a great start. However this is just my own opinion. And we all about opinions. ?.

Most important thing is a sticker. You have to sticker up your shotgun or you'll never be cool.

Gotta make sure those stickers are uber sweet too.

Get the Benelli M2 and send it off to Accurate Iron, Benny Hill or Taran Tactical and don't look back. My 15 year old 5'1" 90 lb niece can handle a Benelli with no problems. Your bigger issue over weight is stock fitment. Most shotgun stocks come from the factory too large for the average person. Unfortunately with the M2 and nearly all other polymer stocks, they lack significant adjustability. On the M2, you can change out the recoil pad on the buttstock to have in the neighborhood of 3/4" - 1" or so of adjustability. Having watched the aforementioned Katie Harris shoot a few stages, she appears to have a wingspan that is on the longer size, not un-natural or anything, but it certainly can't hurt her stock fitment.
Get the M2, get it fitted for you, length and camber and send it off for the race package.

I like the idea of a benelli, but I also like the idea of staying married, and my husband will not appreciate the benelli price tag. I am looking for something a little less expensive.........

You could do the m3000 has inertia driven system as does the benelli. I have exactly 600.00 in mine so far. Mines a 26 inch but also comes in 24 inch.
