Shotgun tube extention question

The black one being the +8? Sounds like you need to find a spring manufacturer to me. Have one custom made :)

I'm sure ISMI who I believe makes the ones we al use now could simply cut a longer one. The problem is when the spring is down to its last shell it gets weak because it's almost fully extended. If you go longer you get more tension at the end but the extra spring when fully squished starts eating up your tube space so your ammo count goes down. I think u could make a 15 or maybe a 16 round tube work but that probably it.

The black one is a plus 8 with XXL cap. It holds 12 real easy. Can't get 13 in it and still trust it will run for more than a few shots.

Ahhh mine is a remington 870 with a 26" barrel. So the +8 has only 5in past the muzzle. Before I go spend $80+ on a tube extention I need to see how I like the ones that hang past the muzzle or if I want to give up a few rounds for a flush(or close to flush)

Ii just put a +8 on my buddy's camo 26" gun. It had the regular cap it came with. It only stick past the barrel about 1-3" if memory serves me correctly. It Only held 11 though.

Here are two things to consider. The longer tube sticking out past the barrel looks weird at first but it grows on you. I have had instances with ports and doorways where I have bumped that long SOB into the wall so it requires more conscious effort if muzzle or tube awareness to not get hung up. The long tube requires more attention TO detail to keep your spring fresh. You will go though springs more frequently. I let mine get weak lst weekend and had two rounds hang up coming out of the tube on the clock at a match.

If you go long go long. The three benefits I see are having the ability to load 3 handfulls of 4 shells is better than 2 handfulls 4 and one of only 3 rounds. The longer tube is quite a bit easier to load the first 8 due to less spring pressure resistance. Lastly the 12 round tube allows me to practice loading 3 handfuls of shells instead if just two before I have to unload and start over. U may not think that is a big deal until you start practice loading 100-200 rounds a session 4-5 days a week for 2-3 months to Madter the technique.

I also have a 26" barrel for my nova. I just ordered my first tube extension but and i was hesitant to get one that stuck out past the barrel. Kirk Smith brought a good point to my attention that made up my mind for me. when you switch guns and have to throw your shotgun into a barrel, if you have a tube extension that goes past the shotgun barrel, the tube extension will hit the bottom of the barrel instead of your shotgun barrel which will save a little wear and tear on the shotgun barrel. so, i bought a +6 which will stick past my barrel 3-4".

That is good thinking only problem is that the shotgun barrel is a lot stronger that the mag tubes are.

By the looks of things this purchase will have to be put on the back burner doesn't look like I will be able to afford the shotgun match after all ;( I really wanted to go too! Thank you for the info. When I do purchase it I will have to get the +8 and learn to love the extra 3-5in of mag tube

* on a side note what all would I need for a shotgun match? Caddys and what not then alsothe prefered versions of such items so I can see how much I will need to spend to be even slightly competitive

which shotgun match?

The one in june at okcgc. $100 match fee :P

Roger that. High Plains Shooting Challenge. I need to get with Trapr about BoomerShooter sponsoring it again. Last year we gave away a free slot to the match. You might alos talk to Trapr about helping out as an RO or scorekeeper. You get free match entrance for doing so.

You need at least 4 probably 6 caddys for a big shotgun match. 4 is good for 3 gun too. You can start with a couple or a few and borrow them from others too. we all do it on the big stages. We have a group buy going on the top of the line caddys right now. Check it out.

Don't mean to rain and I could be wrong. I have a +6 (stock end cap) on my 24" Nova and it is only 3" past the muzzle with the stock choke.

I am a newbie but if you want to squad with me and use a Nova (pump) that would save you the cost of the mag tube which is nearly the cost of the match. Just saying..

Id love too but I'm unsure if I will be able to spare the match fee either so I am going to try to talk to Trapr.(also I don't have any of the needed equipment :-( )

I have a mossberg 930 with a Nordic tube that sticks out 7" past the barrel, and it works fine. You are more than welcome to use it!! I just had the barrel threaded and got a LM choke for it to. I think it will knock down anything in its path now .

Good thread.... I have a +8 on my 26" M2 for open and can get 11 in it, but after reading about the XXL cap I ordered one today so I can start with 14 (12+1+1).

Thanks,
Allen

Cut that spring one coil at a time to keep it as long as possible.

Just got my first tube extension for my nova. i wasnt sure if i wanted the extension to be longer than the barrel either but, in the end, i decided to go with a +6 which sticks past the barrel a couple of inches. gives me a 10+1 capacity. after putting it on i've decided that i looks badass sticking out past the barrel.

thanks to Wall for hooking me up. great service as always.
