Shotgun Loading Help

Think smooth helps me, if I'm having trouble and I just concentrate on loading each shell as smooth as possible it always works better than thinking load faster for me. On your good runs it will be hard for most anyone to beat you as it is. And of the loads you did none where perfect yet. You put in the practice and that is why you will keep getting better, you have a sub 5sec one in you if you put a perfect run together.

I always keep my eyes on the loading port/shells till I have my thumb on the brass of the last shell, then I look down to spot the next grab. I notice you do that once or twice, but you are usually looking down at your belt when you still have 3 shells in your hand. That can lead to some in consistency, it does for me at least.

Your hands are bigger than mine, so that might be easier for you, but it makes it a lot tougher for me to stay in control of the shells when I look away.

Also as Burki mentioned you looked tense on the first couple. I think your T-shirt may be too tight :).

Looking at your video & Kurt's video the thing that jumps out is exactly what Burki & Chris said, Kurt looks more relaxed. I think you're pushing it & that's what's hanging you up. Just as Jake pointed out, smooth is going to be the key.

Regardless, your still pretty damn fast.......congrats on that buddy.

I'm surprised you feel you are stuck.
I feel like Johnny Appleseed, I drop as many shells on the ground as I load, you would think I was planting the damn things.
BUT, I think if I asked your question to the master he would say;
Grasshopper, practice with your eyes closed with non electronic ear muffs. Be one with the space between the belt and the gun.
At your level you know where everything is on your belt and where the loading port is.
You look up and down allot which seems to me would be unnecessary with as much practice as you do.
Consider this information from the mouth of babies; this is my knee jerk opinion which I wish to be helpful and not harmful.
If that isn’t a kick in the head, Johnny gosh damn Appleseed giving advise.
If this helps you do a sub 5 second run as Jake predicted I want a free lesson.

This is a great mental tip man. I am a big mind set kinda guy. That's why I joke around a lot right up to my run on a stage once I have my plan down. If I can stay relaxed and keep the mindset on the stage and the loading and Shootng in my subconscious I'm always better off. I'm gonna start telling myself smooth rather than fast as I grab for shells.

You're right about a perfect run possibly being in sub 4's. Even those sub 6 loads have several little bobbles in them.

I'll have to go with Jake and Chris on this one. I am by no means quick at the shotgun reloading and the more I try to force speed the worse it goes. Concentrating on being smooth helps 100% of the time...

Wait till I get some of my video from last weeks 3 gun and you can see some techniques to try......

Good runs!

I agree with Chris. I watch the port until I'm thumbing the 4th shell in. Then I look down to the belt. For some reason I find that if my feet are moving, I load smoother. I guess if my feet are still, I'm rushing and trying too hard to go fast.

I started back up this week with my load 8 practice secessions. Took 3 secessions to get back under 6 seconds, but I'm using dummies and not firing a first/last shot.

I've heard of people pinching the buttstock in their armpit to take some burden off the strong arm.

You're funny Jesse!

My fastest on that drill is 5.48 from low ready (not port arms). Like a pistol draw, I do it best when I'm relaxed. For me this starts with consciously relaxing my neck, shoulders, and on down before that buzzer goes off. Just a mental cue that works for me (and may not work for you).

As been stated about looking your shells in. Relax has also been stated. Consistency on your your grab and like anything else slow down before you get to the chamber (smooth is fast as is less bobble). Also get your fingers limbered up. You seem to pause a few times in a series of four. Those slight pauses add up.

Great job - wish I was were you are.

Lastly try angling the shotgun. You seem to do better with what appears a slight angle to the right.

Very Smooth Jessie. My reloads on the shotgun are eatin my lunch. I just switched back to pump because it is easier for me. (Years of LE experience)

damn, i guess thats what fasssst looks like!

absolute noob here Jesse, but the first thing that hit me is just one question...why are you looking down at your belt on your second set of four shells? your'e going to shoot as soon as you get those 4 in so wouldnt it be better to be looking up at your loading hand (and at your target) for those few seconds? i dont think looking down at that point serves any purpose. might just save a couple of hundreths by focusing on your loading hand on that second reload...

i'm dont know my ass from a hole in the ground as far as 3 gun goes, just an observation...

I don't think you need any help, Someone on the BE forum has decided you are the fastest shotgun reloader in the world :sarcastichand:
