It's time to start thinking about the Spring ShootZenFest.

Boggy Head? or Twin Ponds?

Both ranges are located in the Francis Marion National Forest near Awendaw, SC.
They are about 45 minutes north of Charleston and many forum members shoot at both/either range. They are 100 yd ranges with a 25 yd pistol berm and an overhead for shade with ample parking.
We went to Twin Ponds once adn we've been to Boggy Head once.

Anybody have any thoughts?

I've only shot at Boggy Head. How much traffic do each get? Which is easier or more convenient for the out of towners to get to? I'm biased because Boggy Head is a hop, skip and jump from my house.

I am going to have to jump in here with my normal argument...I like Boggy Head because you park your vehicle 30 feet from the firing line. You have to walk half a block to get to your vehicle at Twin Ponds....

Both are nice ranges, and Twin Ponds has more room, but, again...you have a long walk...

SO, I guess I will have to vote on Boggy Head....

Oh Yeah...The grill is in my attic...ready to go...

Steve

I'm with fordnut - Boggy Head for me cause I don't have to haul stuff as far!
I have lots of stuff to haul too!!!

Columbia is cool so the folks in the midlands are covered but where is there a range to host this?

It's going to be in the lowcountry.
But we are open to suggestions.

My personal preference is Boggy Head but I am cool with Twin Ponds too.
We are hopeful that eventually the event will get so large that we will need the extra space at Twin Ponds.

What we would like for the forum to get large enough that we could split the state into quadrants and have 4 events a year.
That would mean a lot of work for the staff to do a ShootzenFest every three months but you guys are worth it.

We do want to move it around, but for now we have to stick with the ranges in the national forests and I don't think there is one near Cola. Unless you count Philson Crossing. My hope is that we can develop a relationship with a private range in othery areas who will be interested in sponsoring a ShootzenFest we'll definately go there in the future.

The ranges near Charleston are kind of our home ranges so we'll do at least one ShootZenFest at the Charleston Ranges anually.

If any range owner is interested please PM Pops and lets work out the details. We'd also like to go to the Myrtle Beach area as well as the Cheraw and Rock Hill areas.

I have not been to either. But, the one that is less distance to haul stuff is good in my book. ;)

I went way up in the mts of NC today shooting . Cold mountain. It was a beautiful day, about 50 degrees Clear and sunny. Damn fine day of shooting

I'd like to find out more about your range at Cold mountain.
Is it a public range or private?

it sounds like a place I might like ot trek to.

When ever you are ready just let me know Pops :) Its a free public range near Canton/Waynesville NC. You can park your auto right behind the shooting benches.

Only draw back is no Full auto. But I cannot afford to shoot them that often anyway. It gets crowded on the weekends. I usually go on a Wednesday or a Thursday.
Its about a 25 min drive from Asheville. When the weather is nice I like to go with a friend in Asheville at least every other week. The secenery is great, the drive is nice and the mountains are just beautiful when in bloom. When you are ready let me know, all I need is an excuse to make the drive. ;)

good to know!

I've had my AR since this summer and only put about 30 rounds thru it for function testing...

Not many places that I know of close to me to shoot rifles...

this sounds like fun...hope i'm off that day!

Actually, we're hoping for sometime in May. Passed the "April showers", but still cooler than June
I have to get some stuff lined up with the Park Ranger to make sure they don't have something overlapping our dates.

Also, even though I've started learning to reload myself, I have some new factory .45 ammo and some new Remmington .223 left over from the last ShootzenFest that I'll bring. If I get to shoot your Thompson I'll bring all new factory ammo. I'd feel real bad if I had a reload give out on someone elses toy. . . .

Pops.
