Shooting Glasses

Scott in general I'm cheap BUT when it comes to my eyes I've been down the cheap scope road once and boys and girls ain't going down that road again!

I don't know if there is a place in town that carries any of these glasses or it's an order on-line thing but I'd sure like to take a look before I dump some cash. Later,

Kirk

I'm pretty sure that H&H and/or Heartland carry Oakleys. I've not seen Rudys anywhere but you are free to look through mine this weekend. I'll take pop out the prescription insert for you.

Actually, I did a major review on safety glasses on another site about safety glasses.
It started about the effectiveness of a Taurus Judge using birdshot in a home defense situation. If the intruder was wearing glasses of some sort, would it take out the eyes?
Since I wear glasses, and work in an industrial environment, I used normal prescription glasses, "safety glasses" issued by the company, and prescription safety glasses that have been provided to me by the company.
Shot with the Judge at 3 yds, there was no penetration of the lenses, using any load from the Judge. 4 shot, 6 shot, and 7 1/2 shot was used.
For a comparison, I used a H&R Topper .410 with a 24" barrel,full choke. (my first gun).
Results were identical.
There were no penetrations In the industrial safety glasses that cost around $2-$4, or any of the others including the non-safety glasses that I wear on a daily basis.

Bottom line.......wear your glasses.

On the subject of grandpa glasses for shooting, I've used Randolph Rangers for years and I've never found anything better for rifle, pistol, or shotgun.

Maybe someday when I'm a semi-pro I'll shell out for something tactical like Oakley or Rudy Project.

Around that time I'm hoping we'll win some.

Spoke with my eye doc yesterday and WOW all the different things different lenses accomplish are crazy! he deals with Oakley and is going to get with them about their offerings and try to get a set lined out from the shooting environments I told him I would encounter. I found out real quick this is not going to be a cheap deal BUT I'd rather not skimp on the eyes!

I'd still like to take a look at yours GT and Scott, I should be at the USPSA in the morning we can see if we can work out a time for show and tell. Later,

I finally had to break down and go with some prescription shooting glasses as the front sight was getting pretty fuzzy lately. I really can't say enough good things about the Oakleys they are a great product with good quality lenses. However I went with the Rudy Project Rydon's from http://www.tacticalrx.com/ the guys there seem to have a good solution and made it very easy for me once I had an up to date prescription :O

I'm lucky right now as I don't need a script for shooting, reading well that's another story. He is checking to see what he can get so might just hit an on-line store for my new specs but I know they are in my future as Mon and Tue my eyes kinda hurt from just the safety glasses I had on so time to step up and spend some cash. Thanks fella's for the suggestions and look forward to checking some glasses out tomorrow. Later,

Well after a mess of digging and looking thru some glasses at the IPSC shoot last weekend I took several deep breaths and I have a set of Rudy Rydon glasses headed my way with 5 lenses. Not the cheapest glasses I've ever bought BUT they do support shoot much more than Oakley and while the Decot are some awesome glasses I just liked the Rudy's much better sorta more my style. I made a call to thier customer service and talk about helping this hick out! I spent close to 20 minutes on the phone with the guy about what different lenses do and how they go about bringing out the contrast and a whole bunch of other things I have no clue about! plus he gave me a discount code and free overnight shipping.

I have to say thanks to everyone who let me try out thier specs last weekend and GT thanks for letting me look thru yours even thought that scrip you have still has me walking a touch to the left still LOL. With the help I was offered and the support these guys give the shooting sports if your looking for some damn good shooting glasses do yourself a favor and call up Rudy Project! they ain't cheap but from what they have done and from what I have seen they should be worth every penny. Later,

Kirk

Any of you guys who wear scrip shooting glasses and have bi-foculs in your everyday glasses, are you getting the bi-focul in the top part of the lens and distance in bottom part?

Bad eyes suck!

My "bi-focal" is in the upper inside edge of my right lens and the left lens has just a slight script for distance. Kinda weird at first using both eyes with different lens but now it seems weird not using both eyes and somehow I avoid walking a touch to the left.

I shoot mostly bolt guns and I have really high cheek bones so the problem I have is most glasses are too low when looking through the glass. Any suggestions on glasses that are designed for this problem? I prefer interchangeable lenses.

Yes Decot (once again) hi-wyde model 92 I think, has an adjustable slider in the nose piece which allows you to adjust the lenses UP in relation to your face and yes they are interchangable lenses. They are made specifically for rifle shooting.

I also own a couple older pairs of Ray-Ban shooting glasses that I got from my dad. They ride plenty high up on your face for any kind of shooting.

Plus, one of my favorite people wore them:
