I'm going to be in West Columbia next weekend and I thought I'd stop by Shooter's Choice there and do some shooting. I called just now as I wanted to be familiar with a few things ahead of time. The first question I asked was if long guns were allowed, the answer was "hunting" rifles only, no military style weapons. Umm ok, then I asked about shotguns, "hunting" shotguns only no pistol grips. Hmmmmm........

I didn't ask or take issue but as with many issues surrounding Gun Rights and gun control, is it not what comes out the end of the gun that matters most? Why would a range care whether or not a shotgun has a pistol grip?

The thought that popped into my mind was that it seems the Brady Campaign had some input on these rules. In the end though it's someone's private property and business and they can run it however they choose. But still, what could they be thinking?

I don't go to Shooter's Choice anymore. I started going to Live Oak's outdoor range and Lexington Gun and Range if I want to shoot indoor. I go to PSA and shoot there if I also am there for supplies, but at $10 for 30 minutes, I don't go there often to shoot. That's a little high. I can shoot rifles AND pistols ALL DAY at Live Oaks for $7. PSA is a very nice range, but I can't justify shooting there too often.

Shooter's Choice doesn't allow military type rifles even if you buy it from them. The lanes suck for long guns; two narrow, dim, poorly ventilated lanes.

Very informative, thanks for the info everyone.

I am still curious about the thinking behind certain things but, I'll file it under "Life's Mysteries".... ;)

I shot some at Shooter's Choice today. Not my decision to go there was there with a group. I asked the guy working behind the counter at the range about the no shotguns with pistol grips rule. He told me it was because some people who shot shotguns with pistol grips shot from the hip and ended up spraying the ceiling...a "few bad apples" etc. And then he told me something and I'm not sure if he was kidding me or not. He said you could shot a shotgun with a pistol grip if it has a folding stock. I thought about it and can't see the logic but range rules in my experience often are hard to figure....
