As if the title weren't bad enough, there's this too.

"We know that many guns used in criminal activities are acquired through straw purchases. We need a meaningful solution to this serious problem," Leahy said.

Anyone else curious as to how they absolutely, definitively, KNOW that many guns are acquired this way? Did they do a prison poll?

Lacking agreement with Coburn, Schumer planned to seek a vote by the Judiciary Committee on a bill resembling a measure he initially proposed two years ago. It would require background checks for nearly all gun sales, with narrow exemptions including one for transactions between close relatives. It would also cut federal aid for states that don't send enough mental health records to the federal background check network ? a widespread problem that has fueled critics' complaints that the current system should be fixed before it is expanded.

Mentally ill people = $$$. And, what exactly, qualifies as "enough"? 100 reports? 1100?

Hope none of you folks are on antidepressants, sleep aids or had an imaginary friend as a kid.

couldnt finish reading it.

thats stupid, like there are thousands of people meeting with criminals to sell them guns.

criminals steal them. maybe sell them between each other.

only known case of legal people selling to criminals is holder and mexico.

vote out ALL incumbants for the next 20 years.

White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters that the administration favors "tough penalties on gun traffickers and straw purchasers who funnel guns to dangerous criminals."

Somebody's been watching too much "Sons of Anarchy."

This is just another step toward making us captives to a socialist government.......Little steps then bigger and bigger steps!!!

I just find it totally unacceptable that F&F has been swept under the table. No reprecussions at all, for anyone.

Meanwhile, Holder gets protected by an EO that should have never been. They definitely have something to hide! "We The People", can't do a damn thing about it.

Lord, what has happened to our great Nation?

The Senate Judiciary Committee is controlled by rabid gun grabbers like Sen Feinstein and Sen Schumer. Everything will get passed out of committee.

The fight is on the Senate floor, where they need 60 votes to pass anything. Now is the time to LIGHT UP your Senators plus the 20 vulnerable ones.

I suggest that some folks start from the BOTTOM of the list; I suspect a lot of people started at the top, got tired, and gave up. You can space your calls out over a few days. Just call two or three every evening.

Possible script:
"Dear Senator. Please oppose all gun control legislation, including assault weapons bans, arbitary magazine capacity restrictions, the criminalization of private sales, and the so-called 'gun trafficking' bill. Gun trafficking is already illegal; straw purchases and sales of firearms are serious felonies. The gun trafficking bill is about using the tools of the drug war such as civil asset forfeiture against American gun owners. Vote NO on all gun control, including on important procedural votes such as cloture. Vote NO -- we are watching carefully and we get to vote too. Thank you."

That should take about 60 seconds to get out, so three calls can be done in five minutes. The "trafficking" bill is the hardest to kill and probably the most important to kill. The cloture vote is extremely important.

Do not give up the soap box and ballot box!
