Scott:

I just joined the forum. I was in the local gun shop yesterday (owner is an Army vet as am I). The owner has a friend (Marine vet) that shoots with us. He said "Semper Fi" when he left (to the owner). A guy standing next to me asked "What's Semper Fi mean?" I replied "Go Army." I'm only telling you that over the Internet (you might run faster than me in person).

HAHA! Army vs Marine, that would go over with a good laugh.
Good Lord don't try that with someone from the Navy vs Marine. There WILL be a fight. :D

Not only no, but **** no! HAHA Thats a good one bro. But hey if you were to open up a book with the title Marines, the summary would read, "Because the Army needs heros too" I'm stationed on a army base right now so theres nothing but elephant dung talking, love it. Take care man

The United States Marine Corps - Because the Army is not good at parades. How many Marines took part in the largest amphibious operation in American military history?

as he's probably sipping a pina colada

Hey the Army is horrible at drill. So glad we agree on something David

Hey mad respect for D Day. I dont have nothing against that.

I could say the Marines were fighting the Japanese and doing the island hopping campaign a few years before D Day thats why we are the FIRST TO FIGHT...RAH! Hear the motivation through all CAPs? Lol

Years ago I wrote my history thesis about the Battle of Peleliu (1944). That was a bloody hard slog (involving Marines and Army). After WWII a monument was erected to honor the fallen. Chiseled in stone were the words "Lest We Forget." Well, a few decades later the monument was overgrown with jungle growth and forgotten. I led efforts at a "Lest We Forget" conference to rectify that. I have not seen a recent picture, but I'm going to check into it.

In my research I found a memoir by a Marine that was fortunate enough to survive the ordeal. He was climbing up the rope ladder from the boat hauling them back to the ship for R&R. A sailor reached over to help him aboard and asked the Marine "Hey, get any souvenirs?" The Marine grabbed his ass with his other hand and said "right here swabbie, that's my souvenir."

The Marines erected another monument on the island.
