I'm trying to determine how much it would cost me to get a suppressor in .22. This would be my first NFA purchase and I'm getting a little confused. So this is what I gather. I have to complete a form 4 or a trust (the form 4 only i can possess the suppressor but under the trust whom I list in the trust can also possess). After this is approved I would send 100$ for a tax stamp on that form. Once the stamp comes back (6 month wait...) Then I am free to pick up my supressor. So If I did a trust: 150$ to set up trust with a lawyer, 100$ tax stamp, and then the cost of the supressor. Do I have to identify the supressor i want first (are they numbered)? Can i move the supressor to other weapons ie pistol to rifle? Also is the .22 a good first purchase or should I look at other options. Thanks for the help. Plan on going over to UAG at some point once I decide if the is a viable purchase for me or not.

The stamp costs $200.

The suppressor is a serialized "firearm" for the purposes of the 1934 National Firearms Act.

You can use any suppressor in any way you want on any gun you want or even as a sinker on a fishing line once you have the paperwork.

Your steps are a little out of order, but that's OK. You pay for the silencer FIRST. The serialized item gets put onto the ATF form 4 and if your dealer is worth anything, they'll fill it out for you so all you do is sign.

You don't HAVE to make a trust unless you want to. The other step is individual registration. This requires fingerprint cards, two passport photos, and your local sheriffs signature. If you go the trust route, once the form 4 is filled out, you just send a copy of the trust docs along with the Form 4 and your $200 Tax Stamp check to the ATF. You wait 6-9 months (current wait times) and once your dealer receives the stamp, you go pick up the item. You can put the suppressor on any gun it'll fit on, just make sure the threads are the same or you have the right QD muzzle device. I recommend making 50% size laminated copies of the F4 to carry in the range bag and leave the originals at home to prevent damage.

.22 silencers are fun for sure, but you can't have JUST ONE. Every collection needs a .22, a pistol, and some kind of rifle can, whether its 9/.45 and 5.56/7.62.

Thanks for clearing that up for me a bit. So $200 for the stamp and cost of supressor.

Avtomat-acolyte, do you think i should have it galvanized if I use it as a sinker or will the aluminum hold up? :lol:
