School me on 14.5" barrels with pinned compensators

Where do you get a permit and do you need one for an SBR lower if you don't have a short barrel on it? Like if I threw my 18" upper on the lower for an out of state match?

I had a similar conversation with the ATF a few years back. There are different opinions on this, so I'd suggest researching it yourself. I was told that if I wanted to put a 16" or longer barrel back on my AR and transport it to my home state (Alabama) which at the time SBR's were not allowed, I could and there would be no problems. The issue is the barrel length, not the receiver registered as an SBR.

If I were contacted by an LEO for some reason and they wanted to check the serial number for whatever reason, all they'd get was clear or stolen. ATF registration or status does not show up on your typical LEO inquiry.
