SBR's & Pistols What to avoid?

About to start working on a pistol/SBR upper. What should I avoid?

Not having a pistol or SBR lower already built!

Make sure all your lowers have an upper on em. Don't have another lower that has the buttstock attached.
Once you have a short barrel attached to the upper, you need to have it on a lower that doesn't have the buttstock assembly, or a way to easily attach a buttstock.

Here is that buffer tube I was talking about on Facebook. I have heard good things about it in conjunction with sig arm brace

The phase 5 pistol tube works great with the sig brace. Tight fit but is very shoulder fireable and stable. To me the brace is more comfortable than a stock.

I've heard short barrels are extremely over gassed. Does that effect the buffer setup and is an adjustable gas block a necessity?
Do you need a lower that's specifically says pistol on it?

No need for a lower marked pistol. It starts life as a receiver, and is treated as an "other" now on the 4473.

my 11" 223 barrel was way over gassed.
I ended up using a T3 buffer to slow everything down so it'd cycle right.

An adj. gas block would do the same thing, I just didn't know about them at the time.

I also have a heavy buffer in my 7.5" AR pistol

I have the ST-T2 buffer which is the heavy. The ST-T3 is the extra heavy.

I have never had any reliability problems with mine.

If you want to borrow my buffer before you buy one, let me know.

And the noveske KX3 is a good muzzle device to use if you don't like getting punched in the face.

What is a LAW Tactical adapter? Sounds Awesomely ATAS!

Good I'm up to speed on adjustable gas but not so much on heavy buffers

The 7" guns are just loud and rough feeling IMO
14.5" guns aren't worth the $200 tax stamp

10.5"-11" is the best length for an AR SBR chambered in 5.56 Imo

If going with 9mm, then go 5" and get a damn suppressor for it.

I have a Silencerco Saker 5.56 suppressor on order. So it will most likely spend it's working days on this rifle. Does the can change your barrel length recommendation any?

I wouldn't go any shorter than 11" with a suppressor.

What Matt said about the length. Mine is 10.5 and I am going to get an adjustable gas block for when I run it with a can. I have a old SOT buddy that is now using the SLR Rifleworks gas block to manage the excess gases. He is running it with no problems on his sbrs. He prefers it over the Noveske switch block ( which is another great design.) is your Saker going to be using their brake or their trifecta style hider?

is there a max length for an ar pistol? i saw some vids on youtube acting like KAK pistol tube is the way to go with sig brace..... fwiw

Is there no difference between a pistol and rifle anymore as far as stripped lowers are concerned? I thought a pistol lower had to be marked "Pistol".

Not anymore.
