Anyone seen this making the rounds, thought I would share it if not. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/remove-need-citizens-register-short-barreled-rifle-sbr-atf-paying-200-tax-stamp/h3YQxFCY
ill send this to my tn guysJosh Beauchamp said:The two links I just provided you are links to petitions on the White House petition page. One petition is to remove Short Barreled Rifles or SBRs for the National Firearms Act (NFA) requirment. Under this requirment any private citizen wanting to build a rifle with a barrel shorter than 16 inches is required to submit to an extensive background check by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) that can takes several months and in some cases up to and exceexdin one year to complete. Once the background check is completed the citizen will have to pay a $200.00 fee to the BATFE before they can purchase the item. Furthermore, the citizen cannot transfer that item they own to any other person to include bequeathing the the item to a another person once they pass away. This requirment is excessive, unneeded and I feel it is an unnessecary infringement on the 2nd Amendment Rights of every US citizen. The second link is to a petition on the White House petition website to remove Suppressors or "silencers" from the NFA. Supressors must follow the same requirments as SBRs as I stated above. This is an unneeded and truthfully, ridiculous requirment. First of all it basically makes supressors the same as a firearm. A firearm is a complex mechanism made up of several moving parts. A suppressor is a semi hollow metallic tube. Second, suppressors do not work as Hollywood would have us all believe. In fact a firearm fitted with a suppressor still has a noise level at the muzzle over 100 decibels but just under the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) standard for impluse noises. In fact hearing protection is still recommended for prolonged firing of suppressed weapons. Next, when used suppressors enhance hunter safety by not submitting hunters to painful and damaging sound levels when they harvest a game animal. Additionally, several countries around the world recognize this fact and some require the uses of suppressed weapons when hunting. I ask for you to support these petitions and to submit legislation removing Short Barreled Rifles and Suppressors from the requirements of the National Firearms Act. Thank you. That is an email I sent to my US Rep, Sen Coburn, and Sen Inhoff with the links to both petitions. Feel free to use this or write them yourselves.
I agree and I have done just that. For these petitions to advance we are going to need support from our representatives in the House and Senate. I surely hope both petitions reach the threshold necessary for a response from the White House but considering the hostile position towards the 2nd Amendment the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave holds I think we all know what that response is.gondo said:i think the most productive thing we can do to get signatures is to all share this on facebook and other social media and email the links to people who feel the same as we do asking them to take a minute out of their day and do this....
agreed, it is most important that they keep hearing our voice no matter what there response is, period. full stop.Josh Beauchamp said:I agree and I have done just that.
