When shooting at an outdoor range, even with good berms, how far away would you consider a "safe distance" for a house behind said berm?

Not going to be shooting .50 cal's or anything. 9mm, 5.56, 7.62, maybe the occasional .45.

I'm sure the NRA has recommendations....most ranges are built keeping these standards in mind.

I dug around on their website earlier, but my mojo must be off because I can't find anything other than basic shooting safety. (Don't point dangerous end at self)

Call NRA they publish a Range Design Manual that is quite informative.

Apparently all I needed to know was the proper name. Googling RAnge Design Manual answered my question. Thanks :D

My house is 50 yards from my side berm. As long as you're shooting into rather than over the berm it shouldn't matter how close it is unless noise is an issue

By informative I hope u mean duh common sensical!

Is the berm between you and your house? Meaning if there was no berm from where you are shooting, you'd be shooting at your house?

No, there would be a lake, then an uphill incline. There's a house on the other side, but I'm not sure of the distance. I'm guessing about 1.5 miles.
