if it what i think ive bought 3.

whats the sd? mine say S&W40VE. poly frame and stainless slide.
i like the feel and the price. got my first used for $200 with a holster. later found out it was one of the first 5000 run, before adding a loaded indicator. im hoping it will be worth a million dollars soon.

then i bought a new one on sale for $279. then i bought one for my son for $299.

the bad things about them are the trigger pull is HEAVY. it is said you can send them back to S&W for a reduced pull for free.
next is i like to shoot six oclock. it may be the trigger pull that causes that to be hard to do. i have had it shoot 6 ocklock by squeezing the trigger soooo slow it takes forever. so im thinking the trigger is the problem. i just shoot a little high. sending it back might be a good idea or having someone do a trigger job. i dont like sending one away.

still carry it a lot. i can sleep on the couch with it on under me. of course i havent not had a carry on in years so i can sleep with them all on. its funny, when i was young i never slept on a couch. ramble, ramble

Bro in law had one in 9mm with a trigger pull greater than 12#. My trigger pull gauge only went to 12. Took it to Dale at East Coast Guns and had trigger job reduce it to 7 1/4 #. Dale's daughter did the trigger job. BNL brought down here because they wanted 150.00 plus to do one up in N. Virginia ( D.C. area)and would take several months to get to it. Someone else took one to D&R in Goose Creek and they did a great job, as well. I know because I got to shoot it. :D

Decent reliable guns, usually available cheap, that have an awful trigger...

It was my 9mm that the guys at D&R did the job on...It was a great shooter after they work it over...

Pick up your gun...shoot it a little then...when you hate the trigger...Take it to D&R in Goose Creek...After they finish their magic...you have another new gun..

It is a rebranded sigma.

I'd prefer to hold off, scrape together more money, and get a S&W M&P or Glock or decent 1911 personally.

Great gun if you can get it for $200 - $275. Anything over $300 and it becomes exponentially less-favorable. Why you would be getting it in .40SW instead of 9mm is inexplicable but that's your choice.

As stated above, it is essentially a "latest generation Sigma." The Sigma sucked. S&W went back to correct the flaws and, over several generations, came up with the gun they intended to make, the SWVE series.

Several posters seem to be confusing the SDVE with the SWVE. The SWVE was the last version of the Sigma.

The SDVE is a newer design that replaces the Sigmas and corrects a lot of its flaws. The trigger pull is around 8 lbs out of the box (not 12 like the Sigma) and a $20 spring kit from Apex will drop it down to around 5.5 lbs.

It also has a nicer finish on the slide, dovetailed sights (same dovetails as the M&P so replacements are easy to find), and a standard rail up front rather than the proprietary one.

I've got an M&P in 9mm and an SDVE in .40S&W, and though the M&P is a nicer gun, it's not $125-150 nicer which is what you pay extra.

Ok one more ? I own a 9mm Taurus 809c and a 1911 in 45 should I get the 40 or the 9 in the sdve?

to me...I would go with the 9mm...just because you said you already had one 9mm....That is just one less caliber of ammo to have to find...or...buy.
