Holy crap... I found some further info I thought I'd post and I see this thread has gone viral. I like it though. At least on BS, people speak more freely. Unlike that other forum where it's way too PC and touchy/feely for my taste. It looks like real feelings and honest answers are coming out here, not to mention some comedy.
Anywho, Jesse I found out that the SMM3G rule set does indeed prohibit holding extra ammo before the beep.
Now back to the awesomeness, hell a couple more beers and I'll start telling my DQ story, lol.

My daughter was wanting attention so I quickly posted a short note on that. To further expand on that I do understand. That does not mean i don't follow the rules. I have been DQ'd twice. First time by myself and the second for PF (shooting buddys ammo etc) I could had asked to be put in a different div, but I grew up if you get DQ'd you leave the range and so that is what I did. I did speak with the MD and he said we could work it out. I manned up and left. Totally understood I failed to make maj by 2-3 points my fault I should had chronyed the load from my gun. The first time i shot the wrong load on a steel target. No one knew. I just stopped and informed the SO of it. The last was a local match (my match) the first was a sanctioned match I drove to and they chronyed on the second day and it was looking like a solid 2nd place in my div/class.
I digress. Understanding the thought process I can without agreeing. Myself, make me king for the day I would have complete control of firearms at all times - period. having a BoD to represent the sport and take up issues is great. Look at the trigger pull wt for production. Airing views here will either get it off your chest or erk you further. Taking it up to with the BoD may or may not get it changed, but that is where it is going to happen - they have the power - are in a position to make the call.

The amazing thing about the BE forum is that soooo many people just absolutely do not know the rules. Even some very experienced shooters. Its like they havent even read the book! Every question about a rule is usually a 'what if...' that is totally covered already by the rules. It'll be 52 different variations on sweeping or something, the rules cover sweeping, its the same question asked 52 times. Rarely have I seen something unique.
As for opinions here...Opinion has little to do with it. So far we have not had a rules related question that isnt simply and directly covered in the massive 100 page USPSA pamphlet. Opinion of whether a rule is right or not means zilch. Want a rule changed?
Take formal steps thru your sectional coordinator, area director, and president. Expect them to loosen up a safety rule? Not likely.

PF has nothing to do with DQ's. You are not DQ'd for not making PF. You shoot for no score, but you may continue to shoot.
DQ's are given for safety reasons only:
1. AD's
2. Unsafe gun handling
3. Unsportsmanlike conduct
4. Prohibited sunstances

JT I can feel your pain, actually one jack rascal shouldn't sour the the entire organization. There is a lot I don't like about everything, but the positives are better than the negatives and you shoot. You shoot every match you can it seems. Enjoy it and change what you can, accept some things you wont be able to change and have fun.

Maybe I'm not understanding the original question. Why does it matter if the course of fire is finished or not?
Sweeping is a DQ with one exception.
It doesn't matter, that was just for bonus points. When I posed the question, I should have said, when the shooter has fired their last shot. Anyone know the exception he's referring to when sweeping is not a DQ?

10.5.5.1 Exception â€" A match disqualification is not applicable for
sweeping of the lower extremities (below the belt) while drawing
or re-holstering of the handgun, provided that the competitor’s
fingers are clearly outside of the trigger guard. This exception

Ok, until I get banned or deleted, a double header, but not prize money, I'm just a poor old retired guy on a fixed income.
During the course of fire, a shooter's pistol goes click instead of bang. The RO yells STOP because they thought they heard a primer pop only and think the shooter has had a squib. After checking the gun, it is found, there is not a squib. What should happen now and what rule applies.
Or....same scenario, after checking the gun, it is found to have a squib lodged in the barrel. What should happen then? What rule applies?
