RIP Chris Kyle

I've been reading about this on ARFCOM and it makes me very upset. I follow Chris on Facebook and love that guy.

The Government is slow to acknowledge veterans problems in my opinion. In my war, Agent orange was sprayed everywhere in an effort to remove cover for the vietcong, and NV regulars. It was proven for many years that the dioxin that it contained caused cancer, birth defects in vets kids, and other illnesses that the government didn't acknowledge until lately.
Troops that went home, just went home with no after the fact evaluation. I was picked up in a rice paddy in a huey, put on a plane and flown to Travis AFB for debriefing. Debriefing was a week of ribeye steaks, and rock music.... Yep that got me right back into society. 99.9% of us made the transition with out any problems, but there were some that didn't. The media picked up on some, and that is where the Vietnam vet nut/assassin/crazy guy, came from

The gulf war vets have experienced problems because of uranium enriched ammo, and the Iraq supplied gas attacks. Low level, but none the less.......

The current vets are suffering from PTSD that has now been properly addressed. This same malady has been around since the chinese first unleashed rockets on opposers. but it has been written off by all governments from day one.
WWI vets had PTSB. It was called battle fatigue, but when your being bombarded for days/weeks/months, you will offer to kill your momma to get out of it.

Brain trauma is a terrible thing. Our vets have had it for many years now, and it looks like its not going to get any better.

This. I'll also go out and say that the military needs better psychological screening for applicants trying to join in the first place. Because there is none to go into most line combat MOS's. I'm still in the Army, and I look around me and I see guys every day that should not be here. Not that they are bad people, they just aren't wired for this type of work. Can I prove that they would snap later on if we got into some bad stuff? Nope, I'm not a brain doctor.

Another thing I think needs to stop are the judges out there who are telling kids, "go to war or go to jail", were starting ourselves out wrong to begin with. Sure there are thousands of success stories out there of guys who straightened out their life with military structure, but A LOT of them go back to their old ways when they get out. Why would you send an already "troubled" kid to a war zone? Wrong answer, this is supposed to be Americas finest, not Americas delinquents.

Just my two cents.

Truly sad. He was volunteering his time to help others in need and was killed by one of those very men who needed more help than probably anyone knew. My prayers go out to Chief Kyle's family, to the family of the other man killed, and to the family of the young man who committed the act. I hope that this troubled man can finally get the help that he desperately needs.

If you've read his book then you know how big a deal his family was to him. I can't imagine how hard this is going to be on them. He was home, after four combat tours he was home, and he deserved a rest and his family deserved to have him there. To be killed in an accident is one thing, but to have a piece of trash take his life in this meaningless fashion, wow.

I wish they would just hand the dude over to the SEALs, and be done with him.

RIP Chief, my prayers are with Taya and the kids.

Ya know, if it were me that was killed, I wouldn't want people all torn up and sad about it. Yeah, its complete BS the way it happened. Sad part of it is that his kids don't get to have their daddy anymore. But the way I look at it is, I have had a lot of experiences in life that many people will never get a chance to have. I'm in Afghanistan right now, and if I got blown to bits tomorrow I would want everyone to know that I have had a good run. Ive stood on mountain tops, swam in the seas, stood on 4 continents, and seen some of the best and worst things we as humans can bring to bear. Most of all I would want everyone to know that I am with my Lord in a better place. This is all just from me, I havent done half the crap that Chris did. If he were some lazy couch potato that never did a darn thing, then it would be sad because that would have been a life wasted. He lived life with the pedal to the metal. I say race well run.

He was a Hero in every way an American should want to be. This news was truly a hard pill to swallow for me. I've had the chance to work with and be friends with many men like him. My heart goes out to his children and the children of my friends that did not return like I did to see my children's faces when I stepped off of that bus. Thank you Antichrome for posting and thank you Burk for that awesome pic.
