I don't want to start a Savage vs Remington thread, but that's where I am at in my decision making process.

Here are the two rifles I have narrowed it down to, not set in stone though, so if you have a better idea (in the same basic price range) , go for it.

This Savage

or this Remington

I just bought 2 savages myself,a .308 and a .338 Lapua. I think it comes down to if you want to "pimp" the gun any, later. It is my impression that there will be more tried and tested aftermarket support for the 700. Me, I do not plan on changing anything on my rifles and I am hoping to get a couple of the sub-MOA Savages you hear about. We shall see. Did you decide on an optic?

The only thing I might change on any of the rifles is a stock, but not even sure about that. Only if necessary.

As far as an optic goes, I am leaning real hard towards the Vortex 5-15 Mil/Mil.

Course, I have to get my gun sold first, so somebody go buy Jesse's Glocks!

You can get the savages with a better stock then te standard ones try come with. I forget the other options but they are listed on savages' website.

I've always heard the savage barrels aren't as finished as the Remingtons. Also head the new Remington's aren't what they used to be. That being said I have an older 700.

Simple, a Savage and order you a Bell and Carleson stock then bed the thing and your good to go. A good +20MOA mount like a Ken Farrell and some good rings I'm sota partial to Warne, give Kevin a shout at Stockade Gunstocks and get one of his exteneded bolt handles and a bolt liftkit and if you had the time to wait one of his stocks are AWESOME. There are some Remington's that shoot good out there but I feel you have a much better chance with a Savage of getting a shooter. I've helped a few guys out with LR rigs and they have all been Savage rifles. Later,

Kirk

Ive had both and I like both.
I think next time Ill get a 700 Not sure why its just whats getting at me You wont be disapointe with either

If you're not even sure you'll change the stock, get the Savage.

I like my Remington 700 for the fact that there are a gazillion and one stock options, parts upgrades, etc. Also, finding parts on SnipersHide or other forums for the 700 is pretty common. Take-off, B&C, HSPrec stocks, scope bases, triggers, bottom metal, you name, I've seen it for a good price.

I messed with the Remy, I didn't like the Hogue stock at all. The new Savage Accustocks are supposed to be decent.

My brother-in-law has a savage bolt gun that he's pretty crazy about. Just based off his talk of that gun I'd recommend the savage. heh
