rifle barrel cleaning?

Some of yall may laugh at this but here we go... I meticulously clean every part of every gun i shoot very often with the exception of 2 things 1) i purposely dont clean my pistol barrels (i clean the chambers a lot but have told to not clean the barrels as it does more harm than good) and 2) the only other thing i have never cleaned is my nordic barrel on my 3 gun rifle, i have a few thousand rounds through it and it shoots so damn accurate im honestly afraid to at this point, it literally shoots better groups than any of my bolt guns.... anybody have any suggestions on what to do?

Gun cleaning ideas are like assholes, everybody has one and no two are the same. Clean it as much or as little as you can live with.

If I were you I'd clean that rifle barrel before you're in a big match and it decides it's dirty enough to start losing accuracy and you time out on a long range stage.

I don't really see how running a cloth through the barrel could harm it when bullets are traveling through there at 2,000 fps.

I'd run a cloth patch through it on occasion.

Most bulls eye, and long range shooters don't clean their barrels until the accuracy starts going away.

Accuracy on their part might mean 1/4" deviation.

For the rest of us, if it hits where your pointing within redneck MOA, leave it be.

I don't scrub barrels that shoot jacketed or plated projectiles. I do clean the chambers and bolt lug recess, and run patches through the barrel. I use the same CRC Electronics cleaner for all guns. It is a wonder to behold it's cleaning power.

I've heard some long range shooters say they never remove the copper from their barrels, only the carbon.

It may be the Marine in me, but I clean my guns every single time I shoot them. I'm a bit anal about it.

I clean my bores when I see signs of leading or a degradation of accuracy. Between cleanings I'll occasionally run a couple patches through with some lube to prevent rust. Don't clean the bores very often. I like the other parts of my guns nice and clean, though.

While doing some online research about using automatic transmission fluid as a gun lube, came across a recipe used by old timers called "Ed's Red". There is people that swear by it. Might be worth taking a look at.

Red Neck Tactical posted a mix of ATF and White Lithium grease at 50/50 ratio for gun lube. The example used was a shotgun, Beretta 1301. I have yet to try it out.

I cant shoot well enough for it to matter so I never clean the bore of my rifle at all.
