I have a Remington 700 ADL in .30-06 from about 1970. It is in excellent condition except that it has the questionable "Walker" trigger. While hunting in the early 1970's with this rifle, I experienced an accidental discharge. I was raising the rifle to take a shot at a deer and when I pushed the safety forward to the off position, it discharged. Fortunately, no one was hurt. At that point, I put it in the safe and haven't fired it since.
I would like to be able to pass this rifle to my children safely. It is a beautiful bolt-action with blues finish and walnut stock, too nice to just destroy.
Can anyone make a recommendation for a replacement trigger that would not have the issues of the Walker trigger? I do not want the X-Mark Pro as it has reportedly had the same issues as the Walker. I have been looking at the Timney trigger, but I don't feel comfortable installing it myself.
Any suggestions, maybe even as to a gunsmith in the upstate would be able to install the new trigger?
