Sero Gepard GM6 Lynx? There you have it. Must be a sign... I can have one, but you can't.
Rumplestiltzkin. Beetlejuice. Candy man.

Those 270's are nice looking. But I hear my paw-in-law done went to Academy and bought himself something... Don't know exactly what yet. I guess my input was not needed after all. But while we are on the topic, I like the idea of the lever action. For instance, a Marlin 45-70... 16" stainless six shots of bear stopper. Or even one of those Circuit Judge revolver 410/45LC carbines. My farm carry would have to be the Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull, even more portable.

I love my 45-70 1895 SBL. It is nicely set up with the scout scope. It balances nicely and is a great rifle; from the bench it will shoot a 1MOA group and I can get 3-4 MOA groups from field shooting positions pretty easily.

Still, it is a bit hefty... For a handy "carrying every day all day" rifle I'd prefer a lightweight carbine... The 1894s are much lighter if you can deal with the pistol caliber.

How about a Ruger Mini 14 in 5.56/.223 or a Mini 30? I love my Mini 14 and it's a great grab-and-go gun. Small, lightweight, versatile, rugged and reliable. It doesn't cost a fortune to shoot and with the 5.56 rounds, I think he could take any of those animals. Except for the largest of hogs and maybe a really big, angry bear.

A second option, if he's more traditional, would be the Ruger GSR (Scout) in, I believe, 308 as others have mentioned. It allows for a forward mounted optic (red dots, mid-relief scopes, etc.) and is a bolt-action. It's most likely capable of handling the aforementioned critters as well, although heavier and not as agile as a semi-auto.

Finally, I'd add my recommendation for some kind of lever gun. Maybe in a .44 or a 30-06?

Wow,lots of good recommendations here. I personally use a NEF handi-rifle in 223 for my general purpose farm gun. It's small, reliable, shoots a common caliber, and will take most medium size game.Wouldn't go hog hunting with it but would shoot such if I caught them rooting up my garden. Check out the SC bear stuffed and on display at SCDNR. Not real impressive.

Just to wrap things up, FIL ended up with a Savage 111 in 270, synthetic stock, Accutrigger, Nikon BDC scope, removable box mag, rubber buttpad. Light and easy to handle, and I really love the Nikons - great eye relief and clarity.
