Last year I picked up one of the Dick's Sporting Goods Remington 700 SPS Varminters with the intention of slowly dressing it up some. It shoots great out of the box, and I'm a little hesitant to mess with it because it does work well even with it's non-free floating stock. It is a 26" barreled rifle though, and that is a little much for a walking around rifle. I am looking at having the barrel cut down to 21". Both to make it more handy and to lighten it up a little. Looking for a good smith some where in SC or NC that can cut, do a nice recrown, and put something on the end of the barrel so it won't rust. Looking for a really nice job on this, cause as I said, it is a nice shooter now. Don't want to take anything away from that at all.
By the way, I am in the Upstate SC area, but willing to travel some, or will ship.
Thanks,
Shawn
