I'm looking for a basic ( = cheap! ) rail mount laser for an AR. I'm thinking more along the lines of a low profile similar to what you would mount under the barrel on a pistol. I don't require much, but it does need to be adjustable for elevation and windage.

I can easily find this kinda stuff on Amazon, but prefer to buy locally. Does anybody know of a shop in the Greenville area that might have a selection?

I didn't have enough time at the SCACA show this weekend, or I surely would have been able to find one.

heres a tip.

if you get one dont put a plastic mount on the bottom of a gas rail and go shoot 500 rds.

thats what happened to mine last weekend. the laser i had already broken, just left the mount on for some reason. found it on the ground . we had that M-16 smokin. and the SBS and the glock21 and more.

stepson Chris was here maybe the last visit before he goes back. afgan this time. he had us rofl with stories.
one guy, he walks up, guy is hunkered down with his SAW,lookin good. Chris tells him so, then asks if anything is wrong. no seargent its all good. can you hear the gunnys voice? chris-- YOU AINT GOT ANY FKN BULLETS PRIVATE!!

OK, due to the lack of response, I've gone to searching online for a laser. Any recommendations? Some of the complaints in reviews I have read are:
1) Intermittent/unreliable operation,
2) Big dot at a distance,
3) Won't hold zero.

Here is one I have used and really like. Appears sturdy, is easy to mount and zero, and very bright. The green is great day or night, but easily tracked back to the source at night which could be a drawback. I have not used the remote switch, only the button switch on the laser body. I have it mounted in such a way that my thumb is pretty much on top of it to switch on and off. I have only limited use so I can't speak for how long it will retain zero, but so far I love it. Also received good reviews from other buyers.

($90 or $100 if you're not a member)

I bit a little bullet on a green laser for $35 at DVOR. (Sign up for free to see deals here http://www.dvor.com/s/74ll2l.html )

Green lasers are "all the rage" due to their daylight visibility, but I found an interesting tidbit of info: they degrade or fail altogether at temps below 60 F. I did find some of the more expensive units (e.g. "Subzero") work at lower temps, but with less battery life. I'm sure this characteristic will be improved as technology allows.

Once I get it, I will provide a range report.

I had not come across that fact, but thats a pretty big drawback if they completely fail. I will have to try it out when the temps dip. Thanks for info.

The NCStar Zombie Stryke green laser seems pretty decent for what I paid. The dot stays small and visible at 75+ yards. The adjustment screws seem a bit loose, so a bit of Loctite may be in its future. I took advantage of a light fog and some dusk lighting to impress you with this photo.
