The family and I went out to eat this evening in West Ashley and while we were waiting for our food my husband saw a sign posted next door that said Shooting Range. Of course we moseyed on over, where we had the pleasure of meeting Alex Perkins. He's in the process of overseeing the building of Quickshot, an indoor shooting range that they plan on opening in August/September. Do y'all remember a while back there was a thread about Mayor Riley arranging new ordinances designed to block a shooting range that was planned for the city of Charleston? I'm sure Alex can fill in the details if you'd care to ask, because he and his landlord were the ones Joe targeted. Fortunately they were able to relocate to West Ashley on Sam Rittenberg Blvd. They're in the county now and don't have to deal with the Mayor so that may have been a blessing in disguise for them.

Alex was very kind and gave us a quick tour and talked to us about his plans for the Charleston facility. They currently have a location in Atlanta, GA, and they're very supportive of females in the shooting sport. (A+ in my book) They hold a lot of classes and they're very flexible about holding them both before and after hours, which sounds great to me. They're also active in the Glock Shoot world. In Charleston they don't plan on selling guns (I don't know if they sell them in Atlanta) and Alex mentioned he was looking for good places to recommend, so I sent him here and told him about East Coast, D&R, P-1, Ammo Dump, Belt, and more. One of the activities they hold at their Atlanta location is a date night, which sounds like a lot of fun and is something I will definitely be checking out. We talked about classes that they hold at their other store and I mentioned a few that I'd like to see.

The range looks a bit rough right now because it's still in the bare bones stage, but he's very excited about it, as well he should be. Heck, I'm really excited about it! It was interesting to see the range under construction and he filled me in on what they are planning to do. They have seven 50' lanes and they are using a recycled rubber system for the bullets that can handle up to a .308, and the whole office, classroom and all outside the range appears to be lined with special sound reducing wall board. He was telling me about the state of the art air handling system they'll be using and how they had to configure it so that it wouldn't toss the targets around. It was interesting to see and it's obvious that he's really invested a lot of time and thought into the design of the facility. He's extended an invitation for the forum members to stop by for a tour.
They're located at:

I don't think that they have a store front sign up yet but they have small yard-sized signs and they're between Groucho's Deli and a pawn store. They're working on the phone wiring so if you call them right now the Atlanta store will pick up but they should have it running in a few days. The Atlanta location has a website http://www.quickshotshootingrange.com and if you click on the new locations link in the header it'll take you to a page that has details on Quickshot Charleston. I looked around their website and watched one of the videos they have under their News and Links page, it looks like a well designed range from what I saw.
I'm very excited to have a new range opening up in our area, and look forward to shooting there!

The husband is on the prowl for something so we poked around ATP today and it really fueled my excitement for a new indoor range.
I hope they hurry up and get it built!

Really wish they'd get a membership or pay range out here in Berkeley County. I'm 10 minutes from both Boggey Head and Twin Ponds, but they're so crowded that most of the time I can't even get a spot. Just drove out to Boggey Head this morning and pulled up to a full range with 3 more vehicles ahead of me waiting. After half an hour with nobody moving I just got in the car and left.

I would join Palmetto GC in a hearbeat if it wasn't an hour away :(.

My family went to Quickshot to check it out. It's a decent place but a little too expensive for two adults and two kids.
ATP might be further away but everything is cheaper.

I fired about 75 rounds of 9mm there about two weeks ago.......I popped off a few shots with my S&W M&P 15 22 to see if the scope was still on....................The range is only 17 yards so it is not a place for rifles..........It was too expensive plus a 30+ mile drive....If they had 25 yard lanes and lowered the cost they might stay in business..

I have a membership at ATP and their range on either side is great....I shoot a lot there when I am not at Boggy Head..........Boggy Head is a 66 mile round trip and ATP is a 8 mile round trip.

Sounds like you live fairly close to me Dan as Boggy Head is about the same distance for me.

I keep trying to get out to quickshot but cannot get past that $13/hour on the weekends. ATP is like $5 and is about the only thing I go to ATP for, other than the eye candy in the racks in the center of the floor.
