Question of the Day: Forgive CTD?

That is tough call. I feel like when the going got tough they jumped ship. Then they raised their prices beyond ridiculous and really tried to screw their customers. I understand that in a capitalist market they can charge whatever they want and what they think the market will allow but that doesn't mean its right. I'm glad they made a nice donation but that is nothing compared to what they fleeced people for in the past two months.

I don't like how they treat their customers and there are plenty of other websites that do better. I don't think I'll be back.

Capitalism is one thing but what CTD did went beyond that in my opinion.

When I lived in San Diego I lived waaay out in the country and there was only one gas station between the small community of 5,000 I lived in and town. Talking a 45 minute drive to get to another gas station. In 2003 when the massive wildfires roared through the mountains there everyone had to evacuate pronto. What did the gas station do in this time of need? It doubled its gas prices to over $5.00 per gallon to take advantage of people that were trying to escape and had to stop for fuel to make it. Capitalism? Sure. Was it the right thing to do? Hell no.

Long story short the community rebuilt, boycotted the gas station, and the gas station quickly went out of business because people did not forget what they did.

I will not be going back to CTD even if they lived up to their name with their prices. Again, just my opinion (not to mention their shipping prices are really high).

CTD has a long history of "screwing" their customer base during crises. Unfortunately, capitalism dictates that they can charge whatever they want for their products, even if they take a $15 magazine and change the price to $99 the day after a school shooting.

The reason why CTD is dead to me isn't because of their obviously inflated prices whenever a news event scares gun sales. The reason they will never be a company I deal with is due to their editing of negative feedback issues on other gun forums in an attempt to hide their shady business practices.

If someone is honest, but gouging a price, that's one thing. If you're gouging prices, lying about business practices and covering up failures, mistakes, dissatisfaction, etc then that is beyond fixing. They're a total package of scumbaggery.

$99 for a magazine other people are charging $20 isn't free market capitalism. It's price gouging. Inventory control isn't overpricing 99% of the market out of a sale; limiting the amount of products a customer can buy...THAT'S inventory control.

I never bought much from them because of their shipping practices. I'll NEVER buy from them after them removed black rifles from their sales in a knee jerk reaction to a shooting. I also don't think it's fair they don't ship black rifle parts to California even though the particular parts are legal there.

They donated $100,000 to the 2AF? What if the pulse of the nation was leaning more "left"? Would that same $100k be pushed to a different organization....say, the Brady Campaign? I don't buy it that their donation was out of the goodness of their corporate hearts.

Cheaper Than Dirt can go out of business for all I care.

And while they continue with their $99 mags, their PR department is hard at work:

The title reads "Cheaper Than Dirt Supports Citizens'
2nd Amendment Rights." Well of course they do, without the 2A they would have NO business. So why are they sticking it to their "loyal" customers? Do they know something we don't? Trying to go out in a blaze of money?

Take the $99 PMAG. They appear to be in stock (of course at that price). At some point, though, they could become the ONLY ones with them in stock, no more to come. Then how's that price?

I've never bought anything from CTD, and based on the pricing, I don't have any reason to start now. Their pricing is foolish, but not "price gauging."

Nope, not from me. They have a long history of...shall we say failing to live up to their name.

When you've spent years building a coffin and finally drive home the last nail, don't come crying to me about being sorry after you kind gouge it out a little.

I have to follow suite with everyone else...

They have made the last dime of my money off of me...I refuse to give money to a bunch of price gouging back stabbers that follow which ever way the wind blows just to make a profit.

The last thing I bought from them was about 6 months ago. I bought a cheap rear folding sight . The sight was $21.00...and they charged me $14.00 to ship in...SCREW THEM....Hope They Go Bankrupt .

If they stopped selling guns for good, they probably would go bankrupt. I'm sure that's what happened - they clenched up after the shootings, stopped selling firearms, and then a few weeks later got a call from their accountant about their being a "going concern".

Literally 2 months later from my first answer to this question and my thought remains the same. NO! Sell me out once, I will not provide you the means to do it again later down the line. Once bitten, twice shy.

I haven't forgiven their LAST gouging session from 2008... I see nothing wrong with making a dime on your customers; that is what it is all about. I do, however, draw the line at just blatantly screwing the public. I will NEVER spend a penny with them. (I know, "never say 'Never' "...) The SUN will go out before I spend a dime with them. The sad thing is, there are enough ?newcomers? for them to screw, who don?t know any better?

I won't say "never" but....

Not that long ago and when nobody cared, I bought PMC X-TAC 62gr 5.56 for $6.30 a box from CTD. Bought a lot so the exhorbitant shipping leveled out. Today they're $21.19 for the same box of 20 and their PMC 55gr is $29.19 a box!!! I never forget or forgive! Free market systems and supply/demand curve I get, and there must be folks panicked enough to pay those prices but CTD has lost me.

I purchased quite a bit from CTD several years ago. Now, I wouldn't buy a single thing from them regardless of their prices. They could be cheaper than someone else and I would still pass them up.

Never used them just because of their shipping rates so I doubt there is anything they could ever do to earn my business.
