Basically the question is how easy is it to get a suppressor in South Carolina. Do you have to have a local sheriff sign off that he has given you permission to get one, if so how are the sheriffs here will they do that for you, I am located in York County. I am thinking about getting a suppressor that can be used on 5.56 and can be used on a 22 providing the barrel has the appropriate threading. and can somebody recommend somebody locally who deals with suppressors.

Basically the CLEO sign off is merely saying they know of no reason you should not be able to own one, not really a permission thing. Police chief or sheriff can sign, I don't know if they do in your town or county but I've never had problems in my city or county.
Get separate cans for 55.6 and 22LR rather than a single can to serve double duty, you'll be happier in the end.

Consider setting up a trust that will be the owner of the suppressor. Under current ATF regulations there is no requirement for CLEO signoff.

Mark Schnee hooked me up with a trust for a very reasonable fee:

He is very pro-2A.

Having a trust lets you avoid the LEO signoff and also lets you grant access to the NFA items to others on a temporary or continuing basis. Super convenient if you want to be able to share the contents of your safe with a friend or family member.
