Probably a dumb question on etiquette

Forgive me for asking a dumb question, but it's really the only kind of question I ever ask. At the end of this coming year, when the 2015 Contingency program is over, if I pick up something from the virtual prize table that I don't need or won't use, is it a breach of etiquette to sell it on this website's classifieds to fund something from another site sponsor?

I know, the concept of "etiquette" on this site falls into the same commie elephant dung as vegans, Prius, or eating with utensils, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Yes. All prizes won in this drawing are awesome. You should bed them down with you at night and fill your instagram with their photos during the day.

I think if anyone would be offended, it would be the sponsor who donated the product(s). As a new sponsor to the forum in 2015, I can only answer for myself in that respect. With that said, I completely understand that there would be some items I might donate that the winner of said item(s) may not have a need for. I would not be offended at all if the winner offered them up for sale, donated them to a junior shooter, or swapped the items for something they needed. It might be nice in the Want Ad posting to reference the supplier of said item(s) to further promote that sponsor and their business. My two cents from a non Prius driving, meat eating guy. I will admit I sometimes eat with utensils.

Sell it.
Get the most out of your choice, then barter or sell it for stuff you want.

Kind of a sticky situation... You don't want to offend anybody, but yet if you have no need for it there is no need for it to be wasted. So do what you want to do! :read:

You could always treat it like the sweater your grandma got you for Christmas.
Hang it in the back of the closet and tell her you wear it all the time..... or you could just sell it for a candy bar.

Thanks for chiming in Chris. Its good to hear the view of new sponsors.

I tend to agree. If you win it and don't really need it, make someone a good deal on it and move on.

I also like your idea of making sure the sponsor is mentioned in the ad to give them even more exposure

I can not hear you over my own awesomeness.

Thanks for the intelligent, well-reasoned, helpful replies. And thanks to you too, Jesse.

I think mentioning the sponsor is a great idea. I'm thankful for everything sponsors provide, whether here or on real-world prize tables and whether I actually get my hands on it it or not. It's probably difficult or impossible to quantify a return on investment when providing products or services, but I'm sure there are many times a sponsor takes a loss with prize table items vs customers as a direct result of the advertising. Companies and organizations that take the chance of dealing with a loss yet continue supporting the shooting sports are, from the point of view of this novice (and victim of the Missouri public school system) hugely responsible for the sport's continued success despite the relative lack of mainstream exposure compared to other sports.

Damn, that almost sounded smart, didn't it? Not bad for someone who graduated at the bottom of his class (1.8 GPA) in a state where it's okay to bang your cousin.
