predator calling brings in pigs

in feb I was squealing on the predator call and got a huge surprise. a pack of pigs came in running directly at me! the fleet footed bacon parade stopped and changed direction when I shot the lead pig, a young sow, at about 15 yards.

this shook me up. had they dined on rabbit before and were eager for an easy snack? what would have happened had I not shot? would they have tried to pig out on me? was is just coincidence? if so, what would be the odds for that happening?

my load was 1.5 oz of lead BB shot to the head. all total there were about 3-4 smaller pigs and one big black one which I think was the boar, plus a bunch of little piglets.

I have not shot IPSC in some months. A busy travel schedule kept me away. I was looking forward to shooting in April and may but I shattered the distal end of my left radius by falling off a high bank into Lost Creek while scouting for turkeys. This happened on 1 april and when I saw the bizzare angle my wrist was in, I knew then that my injury was no joke.

see you guys maybe in august.

My predator call has pig sounds. I'm assuming it is a sow in heat, which is the state they stay in most of the year.

As far as your predator call squeals, they are probably similar? My call sounds like a jack rabbit in distress.

Thanks for whacking them!

Did you process and eat the one in your pic? I like them.

I always eat mine, its 65 bucks to get a hog processed and that is for the whole thing made into sausage except the tenderloins which are sliced up thin about like canadian bacon... we do the tenderloin in shake and bake and it is a great deal on meat that tastes way better then store bought stuff to me. You will be surprised what all predator calls will bring in... my biggest surprise was crows trying to get my mojo critter while my call was on and a pack of wild dogs that were the most disgusting animals ive ever seen.... all manged up. I havent tried to call hogs yet but we bait them and shoot them at night under red lights that shine on our feeder.... all in middle TN... who woulda thought!

I know nothing about pig hunting, but I always wanted to try it. What type of call are guys using?

soured corn is the best call imo... i have talked to ppl who have called in with dying rabbit, same as any other predator

I'm guessing that Mithc and Jared get really close when calling. Gondo, Dux and Dennis, how far do you set up from your call when you call for predators/hogs?

I'm typically 50 yds or so away from the call/decoy. It really depends on the terrain your setting up in. We are pretty wide open where I call. Long shots are the norm.

Why yes! Metagenomic research has identified Gigantopithecus spp. DNA in wild hog scats, which is consistent with the theory that Sasquatch is in reality a modern population of this ancient hominid. This is why no dead Sasquatch have ever been found. Wild hogs consume all of Sasquatch carcasses within 24 h of death.
