That would be a bad idea. It's best to just talk about match admin on forums as hypothetical situations.
Yeah but this community is small enough that these complaints aren't really hypothetical. Everyone knows who you're talking about. Deal with IRL elephant dung IRL.

Chambers pretty much hit it on the head. It's not run like a business because it's not a business. We all want to shoot, so we all pool our money and pick a guy to spend the pooled money on targets and organize matches. We are not that guy's customers and so he doesn't have that kind of obligation.

ok, I got about 4 hrs of sleep.
Sometimes its not enough to just have someone volunteer to do the scores and you just hand him the stack of paper. What you are essentially doing is delegating responsibility. so theres a vetting process there thats required.
Since folks are excited to see their scores, then its a fair assumption that folks are going to want to have them correct, and unaltered. So theres a bit of responsibility there, and responsibility isnt something someone who cherishes responsibility to just hand it off to just anyone.

The funny thing is that if you guys would just hang in there, cool your jets and give us some time, we will hopefully soon have some more resources that will hopefully allow us to calculate the scores at the match, after the match, and soon after, or by the time, the stages are torn down.

another thing to mention, it that while I basically said earlier to Like it or lump it" regarding score posting; Anyone that knows me or kurt, knows that this isnt his match, were putting them on for you, so in that respect we are providing a service, and we want to give you guys a nice, seamless, professionally run match, one that you love every aspect of. We arent deaf, and we get the point. A suggestion only really needs to be made once.
Progress in matters must be measured over several matches, and seasons, not hours or days. Since this isnt our full time job.

Also, im not at all pissed or annoyed by freedon shooters poll, or by jesse being jesse, or whatever. so dont think anyone isnt ever welcome at a match; Ill look you in the eye next match and thank you profusely for coming all the way down here to shot this match, which I hope you really enjoyed.

You are correct Mike and Poopy. Most matches are volunteer deals at clubs who the match directors and the shooters are members of.

Now when you start talking about major matches especially 3 gun does that $250 match fee change things? I've never run a major so I don't know the economics but there seems to be several that could or should be making a profit. I assume that is in part why MD's put them on. So if you pay $250 is it fair to expect a professional courtesy of stuff like prompt scores or the match to run efficiently?

I dunno? I do know that if the match is great but the admin side sux people quit going.

Is it important to me, "no", do I want to see them "yes", so I voted I don't care because I don't want it to come across that I demand the scores be posted and I don't care what you have to do to do it. I've only been shooting local matches and probably 95% of the time they have been posted that night or the next day, maybe more than that, I can only think of 2 maybe 3 times they were posted 2 or 3 days later, that's got to be a good track record. I respect and appreciate the guys who take their personal time to put this all together to start demanding things from them. If I said anything in last months 3-gun thread related to scores that came across otherwise, I apologize, anyone who knows me, knows I don't take to many things seriously, even the serious things.

ok this has got out of hand, PEOPLE you are miss understanding what i meant to say, The MD need to get paid for there time which will increase the 3 gun match's i know it takes along time for the MD. Most of the MD's i know are getting tired of running match for the simple fact that its all them trying to do everything. The ranges we use to shoot allow us to shoot there. What i am saying is we no longer need to a back room poker game we need to be supported by the Gun clubs. We do bring in money for them and we do all the work. if there is 50 shooters 20 dollars a pop thats 1000.00 dollers, in one day. We do not tear yup or cost the range that much money plus it brings in new members. You are right my family will always come first, however i know my family doesnt have something every weekend. I will never miss something important to post scores, but i will have people around me to help. If MD's dont have people to help and further the cause then local match will die for the most part.

"We don not tear yup or cost the rage that much money plus it brings in new members."

You do have a way with words :russian:

Everyone take a deep breathe and relax...after all we are here to shoot. :vinsent: :vinsent: :vinsent:

I think the guilty party here really is the timing of this post. I have waited months for results to be posted from a match (was in 2012, don't yell at me please), and had to endure the best local match here in KS closing due to the owner just getting tired of running it. I am sure a balance could be found that does not interfere with family, and appeals to mankind's competitive nature.

The only time words such as "**** off" should appear on here is, after a 12 pack of beer...or a dinner party that the wife made you attend.

peace out ya'll

Just want to post a few things from my perspective; I dont have a schedule, I dont have a secretary I can work around, or vacation days, or get paid if Im not at work, working. About the only thing that vaguely resembles a perk is to shoot the match for free. When I get to shoot, which is still about less than 50% of the matches that I help put on.

I want to help put on a good match, make it safe, and then get the **** home so I can remember what my family looks like. When Im wasting MY OWN paper, printing out score sheets the night before the match at 3am because I forgot about it, I will tell you how much I give a elephant dung if the scores are posted withing 24 hours.

As it stands now, our volunteer score compiler and calculator (who just so happened to write a database pgm to do the scores, on his own time) is probably feeling enough heat from last weeks nice little conversation on this website (which was so fun), about who to send the scores to, and when, -that I fully expect him (and dont blame him) to pass on doing this for us (okcgc 3gun) in the future. Matter of fact, hes a good guy and doesnt need any of this.. Im guessing that youre guessing correctly on when I will most likely get them done if I am to do them in the future.

Whether this post is here because of the previous conversation last week, or just a general" thought provoking question" is irrelevant in my opinion, because these are my "general" thoughts on if I am, or were, sometime involved on putting a match, or not putting on a match.

Whats even better now is that since kurt is now on purgatorial "mod review" , Im going to be the only idiot who's going to look at this website, and all the koom-ba-ya polls and ball-scratching-behind-the-computer "suggestions" some folks will come up with.

I want questions or suggestions like, "hey, can we maybe have some support side shotgun shots, or some intermediate range rifle, or maybe we can use this target, or check out this one stage I saw at this match"; instead, its " are the scores done?", and "they should be out within 24 hours, because it should be run like a business???"
Really?
Really?

A good shooter knows when he has a good match. and until we give away prize mangos or ar-15's for order of finish, the scores will be up and available when it pleases those whose responsibility it is to do so.

so dont cut up the golden goose, or youll get the horns.
Mike, don't hold back. Tells us how you really feel!
All BS aside very good post!

You know Mike can ban people too, don't you? :)

Seriously though do matches make you wait more than a day and a half any where any more? Old Fort used to be slow on their quarterly 3 gun scores but that's not even more than 2-3 days.

On a semi related note - I have shot local USPSA matches were it takes them 3-4 months to turn classifiers in - finally I quit shooting them.

I'm paying a fee to shoot the classifier - if you can't turn it on on a timely basis (by turn it in I mean go to the website and PAY the fee) then maybe you shouldn't be running matches and taking my money for a "classifier fee"

As a reletive Newby at shooting matches. I shoot for fun and to get better. Since I have started, I shoot several matches semi-regularly. 3 at OKCGC, 1 at Heartland, 1 at H&H.
The scores are just a reminder of how well or how badly I shot on a particular day. I don't care if it takes 2 or 3 days or even a week for them to get posted. I see the match being setup/broken down as partly my responsibility. Setup times are posted or are before the match, breakdown is after the match. Both are VOLUNTARY. If more people showed up to help setup and stayed to help breakdown, maybe the MD's would have more time for the scores, and not be so tired, frustrated, cranky,... after the match.
If anyone needs help inputing scores or setting up spreadsheets or databases to calculate the scores I will volunteer to help, as that is what I do for a living.
